What was the first fish you've ever caught?

The spark that lights the fuse for most fishermen is that first beauty. Take a trip back through the banks of your memory and tell us what that fish was, its size, and your experience. If you have a picture that would be awesome too.

For me, it was a barracuda in the mangroves near my house, around 12 inches long. The little ambush predator attacked my lure with lightning speed giving me quite the surprise and leaving me feeling accomplished after reeling it in.

Just an average fisherman.

I started off fishing with push button reels and cane poles in neighborhood drainage ponds. We used pillsbury dough and earth worms for bait back then. I caught my first fish when I was 4-5 years old, a bluegill probably the same size as my hands are now. Soon after that we learned to catch bass with purple plastic worms. The old people would always try and kick us out and keep us from being allowed to fish even back then. They thought of their drainage ponds as pristine, scenic backdrops or something, as if they were there to beautify the community. But they were only there for them to flush their $^¥* into, and to help some kids get introduced into fishing. Come to think of it, maybe it wasn't very sanitary to fish in there...

I can still remember the small hand sized blue gill that I caught in a small pond in Winter Park. That was the fish that for me hooked for life.

I spent most of my summers in Northern Ontario where I would fish with my Father and Uncles. Most likely it was a rock bass, sunfish or perch. I can remember digging under rocks for worms and sitting on the end of a dock for hours. My first fish that was most likely targeted was a walleye. My grand dad was pleased when I brought them home. I did catch a muskie when I was 7.

My first salt water fish was a King Mac in clearwater when I was 7.

Growing Up In Brooklyn N.Y. You Could Go Down To Coney Island & Fish The One Pier They Had By The Cyclone Rollercoster, Or Go To The Sea Wall Near The Varazona Bridge For Bluefish & Flounder. But Me I Use To Go With My Cousian Richie & Unicle Ted On The Ranger 4 & Fish For Monster Blues & Strippers. Fall & Winter You Take To The Gulf Stream & Catch Bluefin & Yellowfins Along With The Occassional Swordfish. Once I Moved To Miami I Went To Miami Beach And Caught A 30lb Tarpon On A Jigmaster A Old Cuban Guy Sold My Mom Back In The Early 80's ;)

MY first fish came at 3 years old.. I remember it till this day. WE were fishing in the river by the powerplant in fort pierce. Actually we were tied up to a channel marker coming out of the plant. I caught what I called at the time a " shithead" aka sheephead. and ate him up that night! he was about 18 inches! Ever since then I Was hooked!

My first fish was a YELLOW PERCH about 12" when I was 4 , in 1959
My Dad& Uncle had gone Fishing just before dark, up at the Rondout Reservoir ,upstate NY, & my Mom& Aunt had taken a ride around the reservoir ,it's a beautiful ride ,
I was in the backseat, never went fishing before,
When we came around the side of that reservoir,& I saw the car parked there , I started yelling : " I wanna go Fishin' with Dad!"
So they stopped yelled down so my Father &Uncle would hear ,they came up the bank, took me down, cut a sapling ,tied a long piece of mono on it ,baited the hook w/ a worm & I had a PERCH soon, Then another ,
Then fell asleep by that fire,

Been crazy over Fishing ever since .......53years ago............that was 1959
