Flathead catfish

Well even though without a doubt I would rather fish saltwater, sometimes you just got to make due with what you have around you. I live fairly close to Lake Oconee, which is a large man made lake with a large population of both blue, channel, and flathead catfish. I got this one last weekend on a large piece of gizzard shad.

Thought that it probably weighed somewhere around 15 pounds but didn't get an exact measurement. Tasted pretty good on the grill!

I used a slip sinker rig. I use a 1/2 ounce egg sinker with 3 feet of 50lb test and a 4/0 circle hook. Anywhere there is a log jam in the river there is going to be at least one fish there.

In open water it would be. You just got to have something heavy enough to get them away from that structure, or they'll break you off.
