even on a boat...
Any ways mono I Think you could have stopped him. I beleive you would have jumped on its back and wrestled him down..
Have you ever seen the video of the guy jumping out of helicopters and taking marlin down?
no but i will now. i woulda stoped him. lol atleast attempted to tie in or chased with the boat.
With that many people
they should have double uni or bloodknot it onto another reel.
Had some of the guys hold the line for pressure while one guys ties the knot.
We do that on the pier when we hook up on monster tarpons.
But I'm sure the marlin was moving a bit faster than a tarpon
You guys are hating on rods and reels, a good captain can get his customer a 1000lb marlin on a 30wide international with straight mono, I've seen pics of it done. . People have been catching giant fish on non-acid wrapped rods and internationals for years, a guy with good sea legs and more experience could have held that rod perfectly fine. The people here are mainly at fault, not the tackle.
Just an average fisherman.
They should have started backing down on that fish like 400 yards before that was even a problem! You should never get spooled from a boat.
