Reddington Long Pier
So the sign at the entrance of the Redington Pier says no shark fishing, but I have heard several reports of people sharking of the pier and recently there was a photo in the paper of a massive bull brought in off it. What gives?
They make you pay to be part of some stupid club to shark fish out there. And it's like 20 bucks to fish the end of that pier. Brought my rods out there once and they wouldn't even let me on.
if this is a public peer,i don't know, but if it is . they cannot make you beacome a member of some club in order to fish for any spieces, that's the law, public use ,is what it is, if you can document this, they have a real problem on there hands.call the local city atterny and inform him,see what he say's.no one shall use public property to privately gain financially.
Unfortunately its a privately owned pier. He has the right to do what he wants, but i just can't see any gain for him to ban potential customers. I don't hardly ever fish there since I can't shark fish (and because of the outrageous fees he charges for fishing different sections of the pier), and i'm sure i'm not the only one.
all i can say about that pier is a thumbs down
West Coast anglers is the club and the annual fees for are very steep but it gets you access to the the tee the Aluminum fjon boat they still use for bait deployment on the weekends .That's the way it's been for years and I guess the new owners that have owned the rickety run down pier for the last several year don't mind keeping things the same. It's really a shame that the only pier for miles that allows shark fishing only allows it to club members,,,,,don't seem fair to me.
Some pictures I took of the Reddington pier in a 2009 Fishing Report
The entrance to the Reddington long pier now renamed Dubai long pier(to piss off the county commisioners who did not allocate any funds to help keep it afloat as a landmark)

This pier has been a meeting place for west coast shark fisherman for many years and has survived many hurricanes and it shows in it's battered appearance. Why can't local goverments help preserve a part of Florida fishing history?
The row boat and the winch used to lower it into the water that is used by the West coast Anglers to row out shark baits from the pier.Only members of the West Coast anglers are allowed to shark fish from this pier.

-----------Just another opinion. FISH ON!!!----------
Thats a pretty long pier, goes out something like 1,000 feet. And there's no swim buoys around it like the rest of the beach. This past june i took along 4/0 rig with a wire leader and threw out a slab of jack, within 10 minutes that clicker startin screamin and I was almost spooled until tail whip wore through the line, and that was down towards the shallow end of the pier! Haven't been back since though, started fishing the bridges down near fort desoto so i could run my big rigs

Shark fishing is strictly prohibited in this area from the beach. I have already looked for any other course of action. This is the ONLY place I have ever seen a hammer swim through the pilings of a pier (like the lakeworth guys). And it gets deep here pretty quick for westcoast standards. World Record Bulls could be caught there........
Team HUGE Gear Captain
"GET SOME!"
About those hammers... I had an old regular tell me that during the spring you can watch the hammerheads swim up and down the beach from up on the pier. Said they'd come to a swimmer and just go around them.

Damn sucks u have to pay but sounds pretty sweet u get a good word in down there fish deepwater where no other shark fisherman are and u might get u bait rowed out for free i wouldn't mind paying if i lived there! but still sucks there is a place like this in st pete its really strict it costs a bunch and u can only bring so many rods and such but luckily anna maria and rod and reel pier where i fish are free no tight regulations and friendly people!
Jake anna maria sharkk kid!!
I fish just about every Saturday night. I sometimes take bait out for people who target bigger shark "larger gear".
Stop around and let me know you saw this post and I will take your bait out. There are only two of us left in the pier shark club and I want to keep it alive. My hope is that some will kick in something to keep the equipment maintained.
Rocky
just curious, how much is it to be a member?
I am not sure; you would have to speak with one of the senior club members.
I paid a one-time fee of $200 about 10 years ago for the upkeep of the winch, davit, boat, scale and ladder. It is nice to be able to get your leader back if you are snagged. I have easily saved that much in tackle over the years.
The cost to fish the pier end is $15.00, which I think is highway robbery. They do not realize they are slowly killing the business. A rise in price amounts to less business; raise them more because of less business and even more stay away. It appears that they just do not have common sense when it comes to business basics.
If you can stomach being ripped off by the owner, fish Saturday nights, I will drop baits occasionally, for no charge, in an effort to promote shark fishing.
