Reddington Long Pier
I am not sure; you would have to speak with one of the senior club members.
I paid a one-time fee of $200 about 10 years ago for the upkeep of the winch, davit, boat, scale and ladder. It is nice to be able to get your leader back if you are snagged. I have easily saved that much in tackle over the years.
The cost to fish the pier end is $15.00, which I think is highway robbery. They do not realize they are slowly killing the business. A rise in price amounts to less business; raise them more because of less business and even more stay away. It appears that they just do not have common sense when it comes to business basics.
If you can stomach being ripped off by the owner, fish Saturday nights, I will drop baits occasionally, for no charge, in an effort to promote shark fishing.
Last time I tried to bring my little 9/0 out they asked me at the baithouse if I was a member of the shark club and I told em no. They told me I cant shark fish from the pier without being a member. I asked "Why?" the dude told me you have to be a member to use the gear, and that "Those guys paid for it all and its for private use." I told him I know and dont wanna touch their gear. Told me I still cant bring out the 9/0, said "Join the shark club". I almost did but cant really find any info on it. Grew up out there outrigging for Tarpon and Kings but havent been out there in YEARS, Im sure Rick and Dave Stein, Dom and even Janet wouldnt even remember me. Since I came home from the Marine Corps Ive been out there once and its now an entirely different show.

Not that I've heard of, but its been forever since I've brought it up. If ya find out let me know? I live about 15min away tops, and miss fishing the place. Grew up there. Still a "pier rat" at heart. If we can get out there to shark fish it Id be glad to help out any way I can. I still cant figure out how to join the club if you still can. I'll have to ask Dave about it one of these days.

Wow hadn't checked out this thread in awhile. Nice to hear from someone who is in this mysterious club. Rocky, if your club has dwindled down to only 2 members, surely there is some way we can work out a agreement to let other people shark fish the pier? Especially if people are not going to use any West Coast Anglers equipment. I would have no problem contributing to a bit of upkeep for the sweet setup you guys have at the end of the pier. I don't think many people would, I think it's the having to join a club, pay membership dues, all that stuff that people get turned off by. Surely many contributions from everyone who is dying to fish there would be better than you and one other person paying for it? Take myself for example. I currently do not live in the area, but when I am there, I shark fish it hard. I would love to fish the pier, but cannot justify paying a yearly membership due when I don't even live there. I definitely can't see the sense in turning away tons of shark anglers and potential customers for the sake of only 2 having the pier to themselves even when they are not there. If you guys don't have a problem with non-club anglers trying to fish, then why on earth is the baithouse still not letting us on? You guys have made the perfect shark fishing setup, I think if people were asked to contribute to it, as opposed to simply being turned away, we would all be better off. I am not bashing your club , it just seems like the pier management has turned this into a bigger deal than it is. And I would take you up on your generous offer of taking baits out, but until I am allowed on with anything over a 4/0, I'll have to pass. Congrats on that sweet bull, saw in in the paper awhile back. Again, I would have no problem contributing towards upkeep of the boat and davit rig, as it's convenience would be really nice. The ability to just simply fish out there though would be sweeter.
I agree with Rudy. Hell, Id gladly yak my own baits out (and others baits) with my own stuff and not touch their Gaffs and stuff if they would just let me past the baithouse with SOMETHING LARGER THAN A 4/0 for once. Id just paddle out my canoe or yak and tie it up to the pilings. Ive climbed up and down those crossbracings hundreds of times since I was a child releasing tarpon and passing rods under the pier and out the other side during the Roundup. I'll keep looking into the "club" but I havent heard anything in years. Maybe I'll pay the $3.00 just to walk on a Fri or Sat night and ask Rick or Dave Stein whats going on. Thats when those guys are out there if I remember right. And Ive seen more than the 2 members out there sharkfishing. You just gotta know somebody I guess. I'll keep you guys posted if I find anything out. May walk out there this weekend.

Seems like such a waste to limit the shark fishing to the two last remainining members on that shark club.As a businessman I would think they could up the income of the pier by changing the memebers only policy,,,,I guess this proves that some business owners are pretty clueless. What a shame the shark fisherman of the west coast!!!

Sandrayusmc definitely post back what you find out. I am heading down next weekend and finally getting to break out the heavy gear at the redington for once would be sweet.

My pic is on the 417 post.
I try to help all potential shark club members deploy bait.
I would hope that those who fish regularly with us consider joining the club. Joining the club does not mean having to buy a season pass to the pier.
