Hey everyone, my name is Michael, I'm 18, and I got into shark fishing a few months ago. I remember roughly a year ago I watched shark week and instantly fell in love with sharks. The very next day I went out to dive with sharks (I was down in the keys at the time) and accomplished that by swimming with a couple grey reef sharks. Fast forward about 6 months, me and my friends were surf fishing when we noticed a couple sharks jumping out of the water (I would go on learn that they were spinners and blacktips) I tried to catch one but of course I was outgunned, only using light gear. Just the rush of the sharks taking my bait and the reel screaming instantly got me hooked. I started to gather gear for shark fishing, starting out with a 4/0 senator my grandpa gave me, then moving up to a 9/0 senator and eventually a 14/0 senator. I had to get a job just to support my desire. Unfortunately I have had only had limited success with landing sharks. I've only landed one shark, a 6ft spinner on my 9/0. But I don't let it discourage me and continue my hunt for a monster!

Congrats on the shark. be careful...its addictive. Soon you may have 3 jobs to get more gear. Stick with it and you will get your shark. Certain months are better then others in certain regions. Look back at reports and gather data for your area. Good luck.
