Handline a shark?

Does anyone have any experience or info on handlineing a shark from the beach? Ive seen plenty videos of people getting GG or some sharks from a boat. Seems like they chum them to boatside and only hafta fight starting 10' out with paracord. I have a 1000yd spool of 1250lb test small rope. Thinking about yaking it out just like a normal rig with a brick. Suicide?

Whatever you do, do it with a smile!

OMG!! DO IT!!! THERE'S NOTHING LIKE IT!!! I've pulled on a few sharks from the sand with just a hand reel and it's a battle like no other! I got the idea from a sharker I met on this message board and ran with it. For $20, I was big game fishing. And it's so simple, I recommend you just go out and make it happen. Basically, it's the same as any other land based shark fishing, but the gear is a little different. Kayak it out, balloon it on a current, cast it if you think you can get some distance with it. It isn't suicide, but it is more work than rod n reel. Also, since you can't reel up on the fish as fast, you can get into trouble when your line goes slack. Like anything, be smart and you and the fish will come out ok.

This looks like a really fun idea to keep fishing changed up a bit. All the gear used look obvious - except the line itself. What would you suggest for the main line? I'm guessing 100# mono? Has anyone else given this a try?

I went with 100 pound test when I was fishing at the pier and 65 pound test when kayaking from the beach. The only reason I went lighter was to give up some strength for distance. Worked great either way!
