had some spare time on my hands so i was on youtube looking up how to spool a fishing reel after watching a couple videos i noticed how the guys were taking there old line off and turning it around and putting it back on so you are getting 2 uses es outta one strain of line in other words saving money

what do you think good idea or bad idea ????

Ive done this before a few times. As long as there is no noticeable damage to the line that has been in the water it's fine. The line that is going to be used the most after you spool it this way has never even seen the water.

If the line is not good enough to be on the top of my reel it is not good enough to be on the bottom. When fishing for sharks you have the potential to be spooled at anytime so I like all my line to be 100%

In long run its cheaper to have braid on the bottom of the spool and mono on top, where the mono will get replaced as soon as the gets weaken. In that way you won't get nervous when a big fish gets you down to the braid and same spool of mono can last you multiple times - depending on how much you'll use.

If you strip off any badly frayed or damaged line and rinse the rest with freshwater real good it should be fine. Or if you're a pro you can fish a 14/0 with 5 bloodknots... JD Hammer.

Just an average fisherman.

Oh yea, I do that all the time on my lite gear. I do inspect it very good tho and if its questionable it goes in the trash.

I like being able to use the drag from one reel to the other when spooling it makes it easy to put good tension on the line.

Oh and my "lite gear" is 99% used to catch bait.

let's examine this idea, when you have a fish hit the greatest amount of stress aplied on the line is at the begining or the middle or the end of the fight,as i have noticed it is that point just about halfway to 3/4 of the fight where more presure is exerted on the line,it is like an ancor, when you are pulling strait while ancored there is not much pressure on the line, but when you try to pull it with the boat that loop that form's it is actually creating more pressure,if you have new line top to bottom you should not worry, but if you're line is old on the bottom of the spool, i would be worried about applying to much pressure when you are almost getting smoked,so as they say if you don't have a back-up,and you are going to make a stand on the last 50 yd's of line you have, you might be regreting that you tried to save a few buck's,better idea is if you fill the reel with new line, fill under pressure and wet the line, that will pack the most line on the reel, then if the first few yard's look like it is getting warn, take of 50-75 yds and putt a top shot of heavier line.but if you are good you can make a bloodnot that will be stronger than the actual line you are fishing.and then you can ad the same size line.good luck with the idea.
