Spooling spinning gear (Spinfisher)

I recently picked up a Spinfisher 10500 for a good deal because I thought it would be fun to try landing some sharks on spinning gear. I was curious about what people recommended as far as what pound braid to spool it with, especially anyone who owns the reel. I was thinking about going with 80lb, but wondered if 65lb or 100lb would be better. Most of the time I shark fish Anna Maria or Sanibel and I will probably be yakking the bait out since I have to do so for my senators anyway (I just wanted to experience the fight on the spinning reel). Any recommendations are appreciated! Also I'd love to hear if anyone has landed sizable sharks with this reel. Thanks in advance!

If you are going to yak baits on it, go with the 80LB. If you want to cast baits, go with 65LB. I run 65 of my surf rods and get some solid fish. Braided line always has a higher breaking strength that what it is rated anyway.

Not so sure you need that heavy of a test. It's all about the shells and the crab traps etc. I had a dolphin grab my 30 test on a 6500 spinfisher and almost rip the whole line from it. I had the line in my hand for a minute trying to break it off, had to cut it. Line strength was not the issue. I have caught 7 foot lemons, 5-6 foot Blacktips and 6 foot bulls on my 6500.

I put out bigger baits on bigger rods and hand cast the 6500 in close. Always gets the most hits. Lesson to be learned. Probably should be dropping the bigger rods at least one anyway in close.

Anyway - 30 lb test is sufficient. - Braid!!!

I fish exclusively with 30lb test for Snook and Tarpon and sometimes have sharks hit my lures. Even with a Stella 6000, I have very hard time holding them. And these are not giant sharks. Having said that, the 10500 is the way to go, IMHO. I got 750 yards of 65lb PP on my ssv, more than enough for any surprises from the surf. 30lb test would get lost on this reel!. The 65 PP cast very well on 12 foot rods, gets it out there. I would recommend 65lb test braid for the ssv 10500.
