[Sticky] drag washers-ht-100s any good?
Indian Rocks tackle is not too far depending on where you are in st. pete. If you know where Redington pier is they are about 3 miles north on gulf Blv. They can install them for you or you can. I live over here in largo..about 10 mins from there,if you need a hand with install or directions let me know
k. order me a few sets and install them. lol. when is that spinning rod gonna be done?
after i flex coat james and get a guide for it
ok. i think ima keep my anchor rod a spinning rod and maybe space the guides diff so i dont have to order a set yet cus the rest are fine just the wraps are coming undone
2 Thoughts about Penn Senators and Drag upgrade
A) If you upgrade your drag to the HT-100, Don't forget to upgrade the Stainless Gear Sleeve too. The stock gear sleeve can strip with the upgraded higher drag pressures. The upgraded gear sleeve will be able to handle the new stronger drag pressures.

B) Depending on the kind of Penn reel you have, it is possible to get even thinner carbon drag washers than the HT-100 and find thinner stainless washers than Penn would send you. This will allow you to add more washers to your drag stack. Adding more carbon drag washers will not only upgrade you to a new carbon drag system (and strengthen your drag), but give you even more drag by increasing the number of drag washers in your stack... kind of a Super Upgrade.

He not only uses HT-100, but also the thinner carbon drag by carbontex and smoothdrag for a Super Upgrade. http://www.smoothdrag.com/
Alan Tani can sell you all that you need (drag washers, replacement parts, upgraded stainless gear sleeve, HT-100 ...) I'm not sure he's developed a Super Upgrade for every Penn Reel, but he's the best and would be happy to walk you though the process of getting your drag way stronger then stock and maybe even beyond street legal.
damn back from the dead. i forgot all about this thread. i have spoke with alan a few times he actually sent me some screws to replace the missing and broken ones on a 113hlw i got and a 110.

I just took the ht 100s out of my 16/0 because I couldn't get the pressure I can with the old washers.

Way past due here but for any future interests or however this might serve everyone heres some more info. As was mentioned before, Alan Tani site is the place for all the information. The guys there are helpful. I have started working on reels myself as a result of the site and do a lot of internationals and senators. Sometimes have done TLD's. Essentially everything is the same sorta speak.
HT-100 are simply carbon fiber drags. HT= high Temperature. Carbon drags significantly improve not only the drag capacity but the the curve as well of the reel. What that plays out to is the line coming out under pressure comes out smooth and little to no bumping as some people describe it. 14/0's and 16/0's are rather interchangeable reels, as well as the 10/0 and 12/0, and some 6/0 and 9/0. The main common difference within and amongst the pairs are line capacities. Because of the newer 14/0's which come with the HT-100 drag from factory, you can now purchase them from PENN for your 16/0. The drag that I have produced with 14/0 HT-100 drags are 50lbs with the star tightened. Therefore expect similar with the 16/0. I got 50lb only because my scale was maxed out. It could have produced maybe 1-3 more lbs. There are kits which are completely custom that will produce close to 100lbs of drag on a 14/16/0 senator.
The gear sleeve should be stainless steel as mentioned before. Although most of the time the stock one is round off simply because the reels are cranked under load. I personally don't fish like that but some people do. The upgraded sleeve will aid in sustaining the higher drag ranges and prevent rounding off while cranking under load.
Once your reel is at a level of this type of power delivery, you have to take into consideration that the frame of the reel could fail. I believe there are solutions to this though.
Overall the carbon drags are a great upgrade and remember that they need to be greased!!!!!
