I have always fished with 480lb 49 strand cable. The area that I am fishing is known for some large tigers however and I wouldn't want to loose a large one due to this cable being chewed through. My question is how do you attach your number 19 piano wire to the rest of your leader. crimps?

#19 single strand you use a haywire twist it shows on the back of the package how to do it. i dont think they make crimps that will do single strand.

the thing with #19 wire is haywire twisting it right too long can kink it and if its donewrong or sloppy under high pressure it can come undone ive seen it happen on a goliath grouper
this is how i learned how to haywire twist http://youtu.be/cEKjXXtmjHM

Thanks for the response. I guess my only other question now is where can you find #19 wire? I have seen some for sale online but was wondering if it was sold in stores like lowes or home depot.

home depot and lowes are not fishing stores and do not belong tied to fishing gear. go to a local tackle shop they should have it if not they can order it for you.

Yeah I just wasn't sure. I picked up some cable awhile back from home depot that worked well...until it rusted. Seeing that I live in the middle of rural georgia the only thing I am going to find in tackle shops around me is gear for crappie and catfish. I guess I'll have to just order off line.

HEY! I work at Lowes Shawn! I get my "weedwacker cable" there! We carry lots of wire and cable at my store but I havent found much that I would use for leader though. The workload to diameter ratio is pretty "off". The only stuff Id use is just too thick for me. Ive used bale wire from the cardboard baler in a pinch but its pretty thick stuff  I wrapped it in electrical tape and ended up with a nice tipper but the stuff was nearly as thick as a pencil once wrapped in tape  . I looked like an idiot but it worked.

Thats not that bad on price. Way more in the stores around here. I just use it due to price/availability. Think I may need to step up my game.

Also, for 35lb less, there is this option of #18 55feet coil instead of 30feet for $15 shipping included: http://www.ebay.com/itm/18-AFW-55-FEET- ... 1533wt_952
#18 wire - 325lb
#19 wire - 360lb ...not much of a difference.

How many feet of wire is in 1lb wire coil of #19, since that's how they sale it and not by feet?
