Sandbar and poor weather

Was down at our place for a week and a half over New Years. The first week was awesome - great weather but had to put off sharking until my wife and daughter went home. I had 4 days to myself, however, the weather turned cold and windy. None the less, three of us, Jerry Hodgkins, Chris Scott and my self - Chris Bowron put in 12 hours through the day and night. Surf fishing sucked as we didn't catch a thing. This was becoming ominous. I had caught 4 Black tips earlier in the week on my spinning rod which was fun. No pics as I was by myself.

At sunset, we re-deployed all baits. Mostly large jacks and half jacks. We dropped a ball in the middle at 300 yards. We immediately got a run on a 12/0 right where it was dropped, proving the stuff works. It ran slowly then stopped. We waited it kept running. We tried to set the hook, but nothing came of it. We kept getting similar runs on the same rod, but on none of the others.

Finally, an hour later, Jerry reeled it in. It was a lame fight as he realized there was something on. It was very strange. We have reeled in dead black tips like this on many occasions. Finally, when we got it to the surf, we realized that it was a 6.7 foot Sandbar, with some decent life in it once it realized it was in the surf.
