Panhandle Report
Well this has definitely been the most hectic trip that I have ever been on. We arrived to st. George island's sunny skies. The only problem was that the surf was very rough and was not favorable for setting baits. For the first two nights I set baits in the surf to no avail. The surf was so rough that I would not hold any of the baits that I was setting, even with the big rocks that I had brought. The water was also FULL of seaweed. I decided to check my swellinfo app to see it there would be any break in the weather. This is what I saw.....
The next day despite the rough conditions off shore we were still able to go out with our offshore guide. It was like being in a washing mashing after we got 5 miles offshore. We contined on to our spot about 26 miles offshore and were able to get our limit of red snapper, a red grouper, and a king. I kept the heads from the snapper and grouper and all of the king. I had some primo bait.
That night there was still no break in the rough surf or the weed, so I traveled down to the cut on the end on the island. Over the next few days I would have numerous hookups, but it seems that something always went wrong. The hook would pull, my 125 test would break on a rock, or I would get hung up on something in the middle of the cut. I was able to get a decent bull from the area though.

This is where it gets interesting. We had heard the talk of tropical activity in the gulf a few days before but didn't want to believe it. Well when we woke up sunday morning, Debby was right at our back window. The power was out and my phone ran out of charge but I did manage to snap this pick of an entire dock getting ripped through the surf pass by our house.
We planned to just ride it out, but those plans were changed when the local police came up and gave us 30 minutes to pack up our things and get off the island. Talk about chaos. That's usually a pack that takes hours. We still have the house for the next week so if conditions improve we will make the trip back done to finish up whatever remaining time we would have. We will see.....

Thanks guys, it was a pretty good trip overall. The fishing wasn't great but we did have a week of sunshine. I did get to break in my new 14/0...even though it wasn't with a fish that tested it. We just got our money back today for the week that we missed. After some looking around I think we found a place near destin for a week! We will leave saturday, so hopefully I will have some more sharks to post up.
