Blacktip Challenge 2014 Team Dirty South 8 ft 9 inch Bull
So after weeks of talking and planning Team Dirty South (Ray Billy and Jose) decided we still needed to score some more bait. We really didnt stock up like we usually do before a tournament so we hit a few local marinas days before the BTC and scored some baits. Now that we had a plan in place it was time to head to the anglers meeting. After arriving to the anglers meeting and signing up we talked to the many angler and friends about the weather and where everyone was fishing. Many people were not fishing that night including us, so we decided to start fresh in the morning. We all went home to get some much needed rest and get some gear ready!!!

The next morning Jose had to work so we couldnt fish without the whole team together so Ray and I decided we would go to one of his spots and catch some fresh bait and we nailed it. Caught 20+ 2ft cudas the perfect bite size morsels for the monster. And after that we stopped one more time at the local marina and scored 4 fresh bonitos.... We were good on bait
🙂

We headed north and met up with Jose at my house loaded up the trucks and continued to drive north. It was pouring rain all the way so it was looking like it was going to be a nasty night. After arriving to the beach we set up camp and the rain was coming down so we kayaked our baits out in some pretty rough water but it had to be done if we wanted to fish!!! We somewhat dried up but our canopy leaked like crazy and we just waited!!!

After hours of waiting and no hits we decided to call it a night and pack up and head home to take some warm showers and dry up.... And see what day two had in store for us. With much needed rest we headed out for day two and started early so we can try for a daytime bite..It was so much better weather on day two.

The sun was setting and no bites we reeled the lines in and put out fresh baits at sunset. Then it happened we had our first hit just before midnight and Ray was on:)After quick work on the 12/0 duel with Bullbuster Braid and Mono the shark was landed and it was a fat female 8'9" bull

After a nice release we settle down and some friends and family come to support us and hang out with the kids(snookhunter Chris and his daughter, my wife and son, Ray's girl and kids and Jose's wife) A few hours go by and everyone leaves Ray and I are walking back to our camp my 14/0 is going off and Jose grabs the rod and sets on it and then i take over and the fight is on it took a little longer for me to get this one in on the 14/0 lol but we did it by this time it was well after midnight and landed a nice 8'3" bull

Not a bad night so as the night ended we called it a night and regrouped for day 3. We started a little later and this was it it was today or nothing so we headed back out to our third and final spot of the tourney with high expectations of pulling off a nic catch on the last 10 hours. We brang out all the big baits we had, big Aj heads and big chunks of stingray and cudas. We set up and waited once again...

On this night as the tournament whined down to the last minutes we had no takers.. The only thing that was caught was a man O war that fought so hard that it attacked Jose on the way out paddling a bait.. And here are the battle scars of the fight!!!!!!!!!

Until next time my fellow fisherman Team Dirty South will stay on the hunt for the MONSTER!!!!!!!!!
Loved the writeup and pictures ,and the bait catching in the canoe is impressive. We need more reports like that ,with detail and good pics. Thanks guys that was awesome.Everybody goes undercover during these tournaments and to see in pictures how you did it gives it a human touch and is a reminder that we all struggle alIke to come out VICTORIOUS..
