half a ray

I had got to my favorate beach access about a mile from my house, I had a half a 30lb ray double hooked for bait. I ran the bait out about 100 yards off of the beach on Anna Maria Island, this was during the huricains that past through the gulf in 2008 so the surf was pretty big. I went to sleep at about 11.00 as I had work in the morning, at about 3.00 I was woken by my 9/0 screaming. It was loaded with a 150yd top shot of 80 mono and about 1500 yrds of powerpro. The fish took took about 600yrds on the first run and then just sat there, dead weight. After I took a couple of pumps in an attemp to bring the fish in it took off again. I felt lots of vibration on the line as if it was rubbing up against something, and then a slack line. I reeled in and my 20ft 480 cable had been chewd through. This happend to me twice last year both times during high storm surges. I now use #19 piano wire.

We need a bigger hammer!
