A Rene Video-11 ft 11 inch TIGER SHARK- Ocean Cay Bahamas

Finally a video available of one the best shark fisherman of all times. You can not judge Rene by his small size or his lack of physical strength ,you see for yourselves the drive and obsession that the man practiced his sport with .His complete surrender to the sport will forever his be his trademark. No one since, and no one after has fished for sharks the way Rene de Dios did.The diabetes that took his life could not dampen his spirit, and he fished through all the ailments that had him weighing a mere 140 pounds, but full of fire and human courage not found in many healthy people. This will be the first of several videos that will tell the story of Rene better then words or pictures could ever tell.I am honered to tell his story and carry his legacy with sorrow but joy at the same time.
This video was shot on August 31,1997 while shark fishing on the drop off ledges of
Ocean Cay Bahamas.Rene de Dios ,Will Fundora and Kiki Ferrer spent two incredible days
fishing the crystal clear waters of the Bahamas on board Will's 23 foot Formula open
fisherman the "Shark Fever".Rene de Dios one of the most flamboyant and passionate
shark fisherman of all times lived and died for these shark fishing adventures. In this
video the viewer can sense the passion of the fisherman and you understand the
personality that made Rene de Dios the unique character that was the most determined
shark fishermman of all times.Words that described Rene were
obsessed, determined, flamboyant, passionate and one-minded all these words come short of
describing his love of the sport of shark fishing.Rene gave his life to shark fishing and
he will never be forgotten.

My sincere and heartfelt thanks to Josh Jergensen (blacktiphunter) for his
devotion to our sport; without his inspiration, and help this video would not of been possible.
It is man such as him that will help preserve the sport of shark fishing and carry it forward
to the next level.Josh is the new face of our sport as an advocate of responsible shark fishing
he promotes and we practice tag and release of sharks to help scientist preserve the shark
populations that have been so heavily overfished by commercial fleets of many different nations.

Come on guys!!Rene had more friends than this.I would like to see more storyies of our guru/teacher . Jd ,Shannon.clack clack, Jd's sons, Luis Iglesia.Big Will the correction officer the same guy writes some things about the greatest that once stood high on top of the sharkfishing world.

Sadly enough time wipes everything clean;our history ,our accomplishments, our failures ,even the memory of past great fisherman. We that are still alive and had the pleasure of fishing alongside of Rene have enough memories of him to last a lifetime,,,,,,,,,,and that's plenty and well enough.
There are many folks out there that LURK in this site but don't post anything for whatever reason good or bad .Many that are not even registered users but they come here to gain knowledge from the most expierienced land-based shark hunters on the internet,to read our fascinating history but are afraid to let there opinions be heard, still others are not allowed to post here because there administrators on other shark fishing websites will reprimand them or possibly boot them from the site completly. They play follow the leader even if the leader is demented.
Others are too young to identify with the oldschool shark fisherman and others don't want to acknowledge the more expierienced fisherman but instead they are out there fishing hard to become recognized land-based shark fisherman on there own merits and I respect that. Those shark fisherman with a strong independent streak willing to work hard for what they get and more interested in making history versus reading about it,,,,,those are the strong smart sharkers that we enjoy attracting.
Whatever the reasons for posting or not I want to tell everyone out there that reads this that this site is for everyone whether you have expierience or not we are here to help you gain the know-how to become a better shark fisherman both on shore and on a boat.We don't discriminate and aim to help our fellow shark fisherman in any way we can.We share our history and that includes showing the pictures of all the sharks we used to catch when things were done in a different way.We don't hide from our past we are proud of having been involved in this sport through all it's ups and downs ,it's been one hell of a ride .The movie "Jaws" put a fire into shark fishing like no other event in history has and we were there to fish through all the tournaments and the mayhem that was shark fishing during that era. We were shark fishing at a time when many of todays best shark fisherman were in diapers or not even born yet.We are here to carry the torch forward to the next generations and promoting a new smarter way of doing things and that involves taking care of what we love and promoting the unity of those involved in this great sport while others are intent on creating divisions in an attempt to dominate shark fishing on the internet we are out there catching the biggest sharks year after year.
Rene lives on, our sport lives on, and we live on and are going forward to protect the sport from all that attack it in one form or another.

Great video of the best. I only met him once but my uncle use to fish with him quite a bit and he has always told me he was the best. I have heard nothing but good things about Rene including several lives he saved on the beach and a kid's life he saved on a boat. Great video.
Awesome video , good times I remember being at home when Rene called me to tell me about his huge 629lb Tiger, some of the best fishing I've done in my life is from the famous "DRAGA" to me it feels like yesterday but its been more than a decade since those days I fished that island in the Bahamas, so gentlemen its time to fish life is short and we got to live it up! RIP Rene we miss you
