I think nothing beats a jack crevalle for shear survivability when free lined on heavy line(80-130 lb test).A free lined jack will stay alive longer and usually swim out further then any other bait when.This past trip to the keys i put out a live 7 lb jack and that puppy was pulling drag on my 12/0 lol.
No seriously jacks are stubborn,strong and will outlast-cudas,runners,bluefish,mackeral,kingfishsting rays,and just about any other bait you can free line.On a pier a jack will usually swim way out beyond where most other baits would go and the hammers and blacktips love to eat them.A big blue runner is good but they usually die after a while.What's your favorite?
