To stab or not to stab

While using jacks for bait, I have wondered if cutting the bait a little will make a difference between the shark hitting it or not. It should, but I have had times where I can't get a Bull to eat a crevalle that has be stabbed and is bleeding. Would it be better to just cut a portion of its tail off instead?
Or will I still remain Bull shark resistant...

Try this..
If its a big jack, cut it in half and put a bunch of slices all through the meat so blood and oil leak out continuously. If its a small one, put it out whole and butterfly filet it but leave the filets barely attached so they flap with the current. But filet it starting at the head so when the bait sits, it'll have wings. The more juice pouring out, the better.

Thanks
I'm trying to cure my nonbullshark catching sickness.
I don't know why but it has plagued me for the last 4 years.
Excluding the Bull that took my gaff with him when he swam off
GGRRRR!!!!

catch a big jack, put a hook in him and send him out live!!!

Slicing into a dead jack will make the blood come out more thus getting a large chum slick in the beginning.
But if your are going to soak baits for a long time, you are better off just leaving it the way it is, because you will get a continuous, steady trail of blood.
Stabbing it and leaving it out for 4 hours is just going to lead up to a crab/pinfish eaten, bloodless skeleton of a jack :P

You could also try different baits besides jacks, and you could chum up the area before you fish it.

I have a lot of luck with ladyfish on the West coast for some reason...

Hope this helps

Just an average fisherman.

I like to use the jack whole and alive no stabbing or butterflying. might have to try the butterflying though.

I like to cut the tail off and put a couple stabs in it and it has worked so far. Sometimes when you send them out live they will swim in circles and tangle lines.
