With them coming in, I was thinking about getting a tag. What's your thoughts on this ? And does that mean I can keep 1 tarpon for $50, or 1 per day limit ? And has anyone ever froze them and used days later ?

Actually recently implemented a tarpon can only be harvested to obtain a igfa record (and no, you cant just say well i thought it was a record). Meaning buying a tarpon tag no longer allows you to keep a tarpon. The days of using tarpon legally are behind us unfortunately 
. If you kill a tarpon and tag it with the new tarpon tags for 2014 you will get yourself into a shit load of trouble. The only way is if you have tarpon saved from previous years that have been tagged with that prior seasons tag.

It is one of the most primo baits you get get. i get so wet looking at the pictures of the veteran sfsc members stacking them up in the keys for bait back in the day, but its now against the law and you have to ask yourself is it worth it. a guy in my area recently got caught killing one and had all his fishing gear, his truck, and his commercial fishing license seized along with a trip to the slammer.

While I think that is a pretty stiff penalty for killing a fish, It sort of warms my heart to hear this..maybe other idiots will think twice before illegally killing gamefish.
Ive heard tarpon is a great bait but recently people have been saying even with a tag you cant harvest or use them for bait
