These officers have a tough job and mostly treat the fisherman with respect and decency but the sad truth is some FWC officers don't even know the difference between a spanish mackerel and a kingfish,on another occasion the poor rookie could'nt tell the difference between a lane snapper and a mutton snapper that have totally different size requirements(the lane has a 8 or 10 inch minimum size requirement and the mutton is 16 inches)i've also have had them ask for a fishing license to possess a snook while fishing on a bridge (way before fishing licenses were required to fish from shore).The snook incident happened to JD and I on the 7 mile bridge in early 2008 we smiled at each other and looked at the officer like he was a martian when he asked us for a license.He was,nt amused but after we told him we were veteran law abiding fisherman he called it in and I guess got an earfull from his CO because shortly thereafter he walked away with his tail between his legs.
