Sting Ray is the way!!!
if you are doing the keys i have seen the guys on t.v. stake out a chum bag on the flats and wiat for the tide to bring in the rays and then you can snag or gig them i wade the flats uphere in the indian river at night with a small spot light and gig them as i walk along never needed chum to bring them in but somtimes i will walk a 100yds before i find some a pole spear will do just fine
The last hammer I kept and cut the jaws out of had hunreds of stingray stingers in the meat around its jaws. We release all of our hammers we catch now. Those rays dont shake off the hook and they bleed alot. I like the ones that is big enough to cut in half and still be big. We make a sport of gigging stingrays. Ya want ya but kicked, just stick one 3' or better and the battle is on. I have a home made harpoon type gig. The end comes off and is attached to a roap. That makes the battle go in my favor. Its alot of fun unless ya are a true tag and release fisherman and have a bleeding heart for the poor ole stingray. I guess I should be ashamed of killing a 20 year old ray and using it for bait. Would you be ashamed , I ant.
