My favorite all time shark bait is the sting ray because the sharks will jump right on it ,,,,specially those big hammerheads.Another reason i like the ray so much is because it last on the hooks, will not wash out like a bonita or barracuda does. The world record hammerhead shark that was caught in 2006 at Boca Grande Pass weighed 1280 lbs and was caught using a live ray for bait.My biggest sharks a 788 lb hammerhead (in 1989) and a 13 foot Tiger(in 2007) were both caught in the Bahamas using sting ray for bait,,,,,Do i need more reason?NOT!!!

Floating out a whole ray on the Long Key bridge in the Florida keys,,,,,hammer candy

I agree! Stingray is a very durable bait. My favorate is the Cownosed Ray. Just recently I had an 8.5ft Lemon come and pick up a chunk of Cownose which had been soaking for close to 9 hours!

WOW....that is a gorgeous Lemon! I always grin a little longer on the sharks that come off of those long soaks....I see you're using the electrical tape and zip ties, was this one released or taken?

Nice pictures!

Thanks! Yeah I am a beliver that electrical tape cuts down electronic impulses and also makes the hook feel softer when bitten (not like a piece of metal). The zip ties are very usefull for rigging baits. I released this shark as I do all the sharks I catch. I had some problems releasing it, I was fishing by myself and beached it on an outgoing tide and could not move it in the wet sand, luckily a large wave came and lifted the shark enough to let me get it in to waist deep water where I had to hold it facing the waves for near ten minutes before it gained the energy back to swim off. Its a great feeling to see sharks swim off through the surf after being released!

I have had people give me rays to use, but what is the most effective way to catch them? I have heard jigging in some sea grass works?
