do any of you guys spear your bait off the beach for stingrays sheepshead and bait fish or is it just me
i find it is an effective way especially if you have some sort of structure off your beach
plus the fish dont have to be biting to get bait and it attract's out toothy critters at the same time.
if you do spear
what do you use, pole spear, spear gun, Hawain sling,
and what make and what tips do you prefer

other than that poling the flats using a gig and chasing down rays is pretty good too if you can keep the ray from yanking you off the kayak.

the spadefish were right in the pilings we used to land the kayaks on the pilings and shoot right off of the pilings.

Let me warn ya now. If ya spearfish from the beach during the day the tourists will call the cops. (FWC Website info) You may NOT spearfish (excluding bowfishing and gigging):
■ Spearfishing of marine and freshwater species in freshwater is prohibited. Possession of a spear gun in or on freshwater is also prohibited.

■ Within 100 yards of a public swimming beach, any commercial or public fishing pier, or any part of a bridge from which public fishing is allowed.

■ Within 100 feet of any part of a jetty that is above the surface of the sea—except for the last 500 yards of a jetty that extends more than 1,500 yards from the shoreline.

■ In Collier County and in Monroe County from Long Key north to the Dade County line.

■ For any fish for which spearing is expressly prohibited by law.

Swim out 100yds from the swim buoy's and your golden, Just gotta find some structure etc. I spearfish inside Tampa Bay on the deeper grassflats where you can pick up lots of rays of all types, sheepshead, black drum etc. Plenty of bait out there now.

i dont see why a circle hook wouldnt work to fish for rays. but if there are schools of cow nose rays just snag them with treble hooks
