Sharking introduction

Hi,
As my user name suggests I'm from the UK and unfortunately cannot be in Florida as often as I would like to be. As a result,
I have little experience of shark location. From reading the forum and other soures I have gathered enough information for my technique though as beaches go, I am clueless. In summary could anyone guide me to an area in West Palm Beach or Lake Worth area where I would have a decent chance of a blacktip, spinner or even a big bull/hammer with plenty of jacks to keep me busy in the mean time. As for gear I have a very powerful, long surf rod (managed to land a 80 lb tarpon with it in the keys ;) ) with a large fixed spool reel which can hold 750 yards of 20lb mono though I'm loading it with 1000+ yards of braid. Thanks, David

an 80lb tarpon is a nice catch, i sugges stronger line than 20lbs for sharks though, in teh juno area there is a place caleld riviera beach where they dont mind you fishing and jacks school up there, many king kong sharks have been caght fro mtehr in the past and the blacktips should be there.

Just an average fisherman.

Thanks, I'm going for 50lb braid. I'll have a go at riviera, sounds pretty good

Mapquest this: Ocean Reef Park, Riviera Beach FL

Stay away from the lifeguards. They are evil and not to be trusted.

If someone asks what you're fishing for say: "Bluefish. Have you seen any?"

Get some squid or shrimp and small #3 or 4 gold hooks and catch some blue runners. They look like this http://www.fishing-boating.com/baitprofiles/bluerunner.htm

Get some 7/0 or 8/0 J hooks and #7 wire and some 50# swivels. Make your rig iike this: braid line, swivel, wire, hook. No weight!

If you want to get fancy, tie 4-5' of 50-100# mono between the line and swivel.

Most of the time I'm too lazy to make a wire leader and use the cheap mustad 36" wire leaders from walmart. I cut off the trulok and pass the
loop of the leader through the eye and over the point of the hook. Quicky snell. Then tie the swivel to the running line. Fuck it get the bait in the water.

Ok you're ready to fish. Cut the blue runner in half. Put the bloody (not UK bloody but really bloody bloody) head on the hook just enough to hold it but don't bury the hook so that you can't set the hook.

Walk up the water and toss it straight out. Your free lining it so its going to move with the current. Walk with it. Reel in the slack. If it comes in cast it back out. Usually if sharks are there, you'll see them jumping.

When the shark hits, stick 'em hard, and hang the fuck on.

Good luck. Let us know how you do.

PS: While your at Walmart purchasing the finest quality tackle, get a shoreline fishing license for $9.

Thanks for all the info. I guess that they must come in close. Don't the swimmers get afraid!
Anyway I'll give that a go, I've also found a very good place using google maps near there so
I'm real fired up. Thanks again
