Mullet that size are only sold in Asian grocery stores for about $2.50/pound. The bait shops mostly sell finger mullet, about $3 -$4 a dozen. There are plenty of mullet in the Halifax river if you're good with a cast net. Just don't use it in Port Orange, cast nets are illegal in that portion of the river.

Where/when are you fishing? I just got a new motorcycle, I'm looking for places to travel and New Smyrna is about an hour away. I could easily be persuaded to catch them for you, though I couldn't stick around to fish. I have tomorrow (Wednesday) off. Let me know and I'll fill up your cooler.

Go to a local bait shop, there are a few around. Get some shrimp/squid and some fishbites, sand flea flavor is great if you can find. Use a bait rod and catch some whiting to use for bait and any other bait fish you can catch.

Also, all the way down south A1A is CNS Park. Great area to fish to get away from swimmers/surfers. $5 per day/vehicle. 6am-6pm There is a bait shop about a mile north of the park on A1A on the left, called End of the Line. Good luck. If you go to CNS, last lot, 5, has nudist.

Canaveral National Seashore. There is also a south entrance, which is called Playalinda Beach in Titusville. They do not connect in between. But if you take A1A south, depending on where exactly you're staying its only a few miles, and you'll run right into the guard gate.
