How do you freeze your rays?

Obviously we all toss 'em in the freezer, lol. But what is the best method for keeping them in the best condition over time? I have read that some people freeze them in water and that helps preserve them from freezerburn.. Lately I've been out fishing along the Causeway nearby and usually get handfuls of plate sized rays and I've just been sliding them into ziplock freezer bags and it's been working nicely for neat and clean storage but I'd like to know what other people are doing and what works best for you and over time?

I don't think it matters. A buddy gave me a ray that sat at the dock all day, then 6 months in his freezer with burn, then on the side of his house for 12 hrs and it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

all the rays i freeze are big. 15-45lbs. i just toss them in black, unscented garbage bags, add a little water to get them sticky and make the bag stick to them then push all the air out and tie it shut. they are usually only frozen for a week to 9 days but come out looking and smelling fresh.

Yeah that's what I do with bigger ones but I usually catch mine on rod and reel and I see you spear/gig yours... If I had the equipment sooner I would have done that but just recently got a freezer and the water is too damn cold for me to go snorkeling now! Lol. Do you ever fish down south Lowprofile?

no, I've only been at it out here for a year now and fished from Destin to Pensacola. my time is up now and I'm headed to a new part of the world. we'll see if i can tame the giant ryukan tigers.

but yes, it is very cold now. this week would have been good to try, and i might tomorrow. but its supposed to get cold again this weekend or early next week. save it for the spring and summer and LOAD UP! i only took what i would use the following weekend. sometimes enough for two trips but i should have stuffed my freezer full of rays, kings and spanish to be using now.
