Help please with some info?
Alright well I want to do some land based shark fishing this year at the port canveral seashore park new new Smyrna beach, fl. I do have a kayak so I will be taking out my baits. I'm completely new and would like to know an inexpensive set up that will last the 2 weeks I am down there in July. ( something that's works but not junk). What bait can I rather catch easily and how far do I need to yak out a bait? Any help will be greatly appericiated. Thanks.
There should be some information here:

Alright, Newbiesharker12 depends what you consider "inexpensive". I know guys that think paying more than $35-40 for a "fishin pole" is just crazy, then you have the guys using $1000+ setups that think their $350 used 14/0 Senator is inexpensive. I started off seriously shark fishing with a 4/0 wide 113HLW Senator and a 6/0 114 Senator. You can likely find a used 4/0 or 6/0 on Craigslist for around $50-75 bucks with or without a rod and pack it with a 300yd spool 65lb Powerpro and top it off with 60 or 80lb mono topshot till full and be just fine for shark up to 6-7ft depending on skill level and other variables. Keep in mind my "profile image" the Goliath Grouper was caught on 50lb mono. And the other GG was on 60lb mono. Sometimes you can find 4/0's and 6/0's for $20-40 bucks at garage sales and on Craigslist but you cant count on them always being that cheap.
As for bait- if you can find a marina that has a partyboat or charters you can find out what time they return and while they are filleting the days catch just ask if you can have a few AJ heads or Snapper carcasses or whatever, they usually would rather give it to you than the LUNATIC pelicans fighting each other for scraps. Or if you're seeing cownose rays just snag one with a big trebel hook. You can also wade around some grassflats and snag mudrays and cownose as you spot em. In a pinch find a seawall and just use squid and catch catfish and rays. Worst case scenario, go to a fish house or fishmarket and buy whole mullet or whatever is cheap at the time, some baitshops carry frozen whole bonito or cuda for sharkbait.
Paddling distance usually depends on spot and past experiences. I use a few rods and go a different distance with each. But I usually at least try to get em out past the first sandbar. But I have run into Lemons in thigh deep water while I was gigging rays for bait, and have seen Spinners chasing mullet up onto the sand in a foot or two of water.
