Cutting Rays

Are there any specific ways to cut up a larger ray to use for bait? How would you rig the individual sections?

The main cuts are ,two wings ,and the mid section. If the ray is very large you can then cut the mid section which is the heaviest in half althought the guts will be messy and all over the place. You can do the same with each wing ,and you end up with six baits.Good luck.

Thank you! I will be fishing every night this next week hoping for a shark. I have yet to catch a "real" shark so I am excited. I have put in time so it is bound to happen.

If that doesn't work, try a hexagonal prism shape. I have a good feeling about that shape

I have taken half a wing and skinned it. The meat will still have no trouble staying on the hook and will leave a great chum slick.

For the 30" and over I cut the face off, straight across a couple inches behind the eyes. Then cut each wing off, now you have 4 pieces.

As for the wings, I run a hook through the top corner where I cut it off at.

what kinda reel are you fishing with? 12/0 and below i would cut it into 1/3. 80w, 14/0 and bigger put that sucker on whole with a couple of slices in it and hang on!

Right now I'm using a 4/0 and an 8000 size spinning reel. I am new and still haven't hooked a "monster" yet. Just a few small blacktops and bonnet heads. Next year I'm getting a 14/0 and going big.
