The ray in the pic soaked from 6:00pm to 9:00 am. The bonita was put out late at 11:00pm and sit to7:00am. The bonita was gone in 3 hours but the ray was still good when i reeled it in. The bonita was nothing but bone and the ray left a blood trail in the sand when i reeled it up. The bonita weighed almost 10 lbs, a bigun and i used it whole and put as few holes as i could as i threaded it. the ray was cut in half down the center. I did get a short run on the bobo and nothing on the ray, but that was one night.

Nice post Ernie Thanks!!We need more post like this that educate the sharkers with not just words but pictures that demonstrate what is written. No doubt about it a ray whether used whole or a section will outlast any other bait .The big fish heads such as Amberjack,Cuda,Grouper etc,etc hold up pretty good also but the ray retains blood better.

Stingrays, jacks and cudas will last longer in the crab and pinfish infested waters.. bonita has better luck in the shortrun i noticed.. when i put out a ray or bigger "tagged" bait Ill let it soak through the night... if I put on somethin like a nita, king, bluefish or whatever Ill check it and rekayak a new different bait after a couple hours of soaking...

havent caught any of my big sharks yet on sting ray, but no question, bonis are only good for 3 or 4 hours, and in shark infested waters, they usualy get nailed before than.

Bonitas are good while they are bloody. Otherwise they become a hard shell with bones in it.

I would imagine that if you could get the bonita off of the ground, suspended in mid water, then it'd be a good bait. Or short drops, def not for overnighting.

In my opinion, it depends on where your fishing, both baits are incredible fresh, just try sending out a live boni off the juno pier and watch what i have watch many times (hammers, blacktips, monster cudas, etc) and put a 40lb chunk of ray in a deep channel in the west coast and see what picks u up (got my ass handed to me in about 3 minutes only to bring back about a quarter pound chunk)

Just an average fisherman.
