Just curious of what kind of rods you guys you use to catch bait? Catching Some jack, stingray, and Mack's. this is a shimano sienna 4000 size reel with 20 pound braid and some 20 pound mono on top. The rod is a Star rod Stellar lite series 7'0" 15-25lb I picked up for 9 dollars :o

Down In Miami Due To the Different Kinds Of Bait We Use Or Is Avaiable To Us tackle Varies. ie. Baraacuda You Would Use A Penn 4/0...Same For Bonito & Smaller Tuna. Phlcherds, We Use A 4 To 8lb Spinner Set Up. Say Sting Rays Penn 9/0 So You Dont Get Striped. ;)

i use a cabo 30 to snag rays with and i get some decent size rays and never had one come close to stripping me. i wanna see the rays you need a 9/0 for.

i snag my rays for bait the ones swimming on top but i know southern rays hang on the bottom and will eat baits. so im asking are you snagging the ones on top or actually fishing for a ray on the bottom.

So far I've been able to catch every good fish I would use for shark bait on my penfishingrod.com combos.

Here's three of my best catches:

You can see it in action here on my youtube channel.

I use a shimano stella 4000Fe on a st croix legend inshore for most of my larger jigs for bonita, jacks etc
I use a shimano stradic ci4 4000 for ladyfish, blues and macks
I use a daiwa saltist 6500 (33lbs of drag fully locked down) on a 8ft dogfish stik with 150lb powerpro for snagging rays 10-80lbs......
I use a separate daiwa saltist 6500 spooled with 80lb braid for anything else large that can be used for bait IE other sharks etc

Mark you crack me up with that thing  it looks fun as hell though 8-)

I use 12 and 8 foot ugly sticks and big spinning reels loaded with 50lb braid for most all my bait fishing.

i use a cabo 30 to snag rays with and i get some decent size rays and never had one come close to stripping me. i wanna see the rays you need a 9/0 for.

Side note... I have caught rays that would most likely dump a 9/0 senator. Have had rough tails that pulled 50-60lbs of drag off  these rays would smoked 20lbs of drag.

heres one that I caught on an Avet 80 and it made a few good runs under drags pushing 60lbs. It was an easy 300lbs

Heres one A friend caught this year with me that was over 200lbs and it pulled heavy drag off a Makira 80W
