9' Bitten Hammerhead

(@madshark)
New Member

When I reeled this in this year I decided I need to use at least 9'1" Hammers for bait. Bite is 15" wide and 4" deep. I was able to revive this shark and she swam off strong.

We,ve had blacktips bitten in half ,big live cudas completely mauled in the morning or afternoons and tarpon devoured by UNSEEN MONSTERS in the night but that attack on the hammer during the daytime is not something we see often.

I would think it would have to be a bull, but the bite is kind of squared off like a tiger. Amazing...those hammers would be tough to catch.

Fantastic Photo.

Do you think the shark was attacked when he was on your line? Were you able to detect any disturbances in the force?

Mr Tiger or Bull for sure.A lot of 200lb+ sharks eaten off the back on boats back in the tpa bay shark club days by Mr tiger. Then the guys used the last 2ft section of shark left for bait to catch that beast

Yeah, absolutely. Near the end of the fight she went absolutely apesh!t for about 45 seconds to a minute. Then pretty much came right in. The stretch of beach we were on has a lot of big Bulls (500#-600#) dunring the month we were there. Tigers don't typically show up til later in the summer. By the clean cut from above and the jagged ripped up mess below, and the time of year, I'm guessing Bull. I have the jaws from a 408# Bull here at the house and they don't come close to the width of this bite.

I was fishing with Madshark when this happened, and it was an amazing sight to see. The shark was still bleeding when we got it on the sand.

It's crazy to think he swam off. you think as soon as he hit the water the other sharks were like "HEY what's up"

It swam off, but I dont know how far it made it from there. There were alot of sharks in that area and big ones at that. I caught my 9'2" hammer only about 30 minutes after we reeled this one in with the bite in its back.
