Shark Fishing Addict, Junkie, for Life
Hello everyone my name is Josh Barnett. My girlfriend and I have grown into what you could call extremely passionate about every detail involved with shark fishing. Due to working 7 days a week, It was very tough to get bait, spend time on the beach, or do anything else for that matter. I have made the decision to quit one of my jobs and dedicate every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to shark fishing. Am I the most knowledgeable or have caught any monsters?? no but I will tell you one thing... I am damn ready and very prepared to dedicate everything I have to this sport. My 130, 14/0, 12,0 will be filled to the brim and ready for anything that swims.
I reside in land O lakes just north of tampa (I will drive about any distance to fish)
I have been shark fishing for about 8 months now with very little results
Ft. Desoto, honeymoon island, st Petersburg are my main battlegrounds. This season I plan to take many trips to boca and some other areas.
My biggest shark to date is a 6'5" Sandbar and it is not enough for me. (looking at these pictures will tell you a lot!)
Joining a fishing team would be nice as long as they will accept my girlfriend as well. (Trust me she knows almost as much as myself and shares the same passion about shark fishing)
We enjoy meeting people with the same passion and drive as us. But the bar, the club, and house parties got old to me a long long time ago and would much rather spend my time on the sand.
I hope some of you contact me and want to do some fishing here very soon. My number is 813-480-0916
Hey man I live in Clearwater and have a couple guys I fish with at Ft. Desoto pretty often and we've been trying to find some other decent areas but haven't had much luck. I've got a 6/0, 9/0, and 12/0 I use and can generally get some smaller baits like whiting and stuff but it's been hard to get anything good with this weather. I and my buddies would be down to fish sometime if you wanted! Ft. Desoto is great and easy for floating the baits out. My biggest there is a 6'3" Sandbar and I've caught a could 6'6" Bulls from spinning gear in the intercoastal. I'll text you sometime in the near future.
welcome aboard

Welcome aboard and be thankful your girl likes fishing or you'd of pushed her away!!
All Shark Fisherman need either a salt Life wife or one with tons of patience !!!!! Lol
That seems to be the standard fill for 130's. I was just debating between 600 or 1200 yds of braid backing. It's definitely a blessing that she loves to do this. Her patience isn't really developed yet she expects pickups to be quick I'm going to blame our low success to that haha.
I've caught her on her phone with the depth finder app very many times . We do plan on BHC BTC next year
Thanks for the welcomes guys
Hey Josh,
If you are goin off the beach I would try to put as much line in your 130 as possible. The 600 yards would be fine off a bridge, but a hammer will tear that up off the beach. Good luck man, and I hope your shark fever never goes away! It's what makes good fishermen great!

Thanks for the tip. However I was hoping to fit another 300 or so yards of 200lb bullbuster as a top shot to the 200lb braid

That #200 bullbuster is nasty. Just put a couple hundred yards on my 14 as a topshot. Might take a little gettin used to when I'm tyin with it, but it'll be worth it when the time comes!

I agree. My 14/0 is loaded with BB 125 I swear it has almost 1300 yds on it.
