I'm John Frederick Widmann IV, I've been fishing our beaches since before I could even drive myself to the sands. I fish out of the 941 area, but travel to the 305, 727, 561, and even as far north as 904 to put a bend in the rod.
I just turned 21, so I've been taking full advantage of that. My largest shark to date is an 11 foot, 3 inch lemon shark I caught on my old, busted, and true penn 9/0 caught in the dead of winter off the Venice Pier back in 2008.
Growing up, I did alot of fishing with my father, but that's not really what interested me in the sport. I had spent time out on Venice Pier watching what everyone else did, catching kingfish, tarpon, cobia, and even the occasional pink snapper (haha). I watched and learned, from dusk, til dawn, until the following dusk, watching behemoth sharks rendezvous with anglers on the shoreline, almost always by force.
I am now one of those rats, doomed to forever answer questions from the curious eyes and ears that grace the unknowing masses.
I prefer to fish long rods, from the shore, bridges, and piers.

And no, the pictures of the lemon shark were on a tourist's camera that had taken down my email AND facebook URL and had failed to send me any of the hi-resolution pictures. Sort of put a damper on my mood for the following days. I had been talking with the guy and his wife for a couple hours before I had even gotten the run.
