New to the forum, South Brevard
Hey yall,
My name is Nick and my pops name is Barry. We have just started shark fishing this last June. I decided to take Barry out to shark fish on fathers day and we caught a twenty pound snook and had a great bit of action. We put out a live whiting on one of our conventional reels, sat down and popped open a cold one. About 30 minutes later we see a huge shark breach out of the water and then all of the sudden our reel just started screaming. Faught the shark for about 5 minutes and then pulled the hook unfortunately. Since then we have been sharking pretty much every weekend.
We mainly stay within Melbourne Beach and Sebastian inlet when we fish. We have only landed smaller blacknose sharks and have not been able to keep the larger ones on long enough to get them to the beach. This forum looked like a great place to get some shark knowledge. Ive been fishing my whole life through out the Rockies, Canada, Mid West and here in Florida, but never got into shark fishing until recently. I dont see how it took so long for me to get into this great sport.
Anyways if any of yall ever want to go out i got a Cobra Explorer kayak and 2 rod setups, which are a TLD25 and Penn Fathom 60, both spooled with around 600 yards. In the market for a 9/0 now, to beef things up a little.
Thanks. We drop between 150-250 yards off with both staggered at different depths. We have had some big sharks on but they end up pulling the hook. Let us know next time you going out and we will meet you either in patrick or Melb Beach. You ever fish Satelite with the rocks?
I fish Playlinda Beach and up til last weekend I have caught 2 fat nurse sharks. 1 of which came in with a pomp rig and a 2/0 circle with the finger mullet still on it. After a little hook removal pratice including mine she swam off just fine. 1 lemon about 5 ft. Then naturally the one time the camera was ready, the help that came down the beach wasnt! I had a black tip that was on the LARGE end of the spectrum! He sure talked a good talk, cause when it was show time his proformance bombed! Leaving me with a break off!!!
Will do. How is the fishing during the fall and winter for sharks in this area?
its been too windy and rough. i dont like yaking out in anything over 4ft (6-9 this wkd)

i usually drop just beyond the breakers, 150 usually the furthest. specially with the mlt running so close
