New to Shark Fishing and the site

My name's Michael. I currently live in Huntsville, AL, far from a beach unfortunately, however, salt water fishing has always been one of my favorite things to do. I try to make several trips to South Alabama/Florida every year. Taking our annual family trip down to Sanibel this year at the end of June-Beginning of July. I recently bought an 11' Surf Rod and a Penn 850SSM reel to try and do some shark fishing while I'm there. May not be the best way to go but I think I can make it work for some smaller Black Tips hopefully. I'm thinking I should be able to handle up to 6-7' on that rod. Any helpful tips or tricks to use in Sanibel would be much appreciated. Lovin the site and all the great info!

Welcome to the site, the setup you have should be alright for some fun surf fishing. Blacktips/spinners will be a blast. Try to use a decent length leader (I would say 6ftish) and good chunks of bait or even live mullet if you can get some. Look forward to seeing your future reports.

Welcome.

I'm also new to sharks and this site as well. My first and only shark was a 6' Blacktip on a spinning reel. It was caught early in the night in waist deep water.

welcome aboard!! and as far as your gear, it will be just fine. When I was working up there in the Redneck Riviera I always kept my spinning rod with me
