Hello everybody, I found this site yesterday by accident, and what a pleasant supprise. So much excellent info.
I started out shark fishing in Destin, FL when I lived close by last year. I now live in Raeford, NC and have not had a chance to shark fish the NC waters yet. I am pretty new to the sport, with very limited knowledge. The biggest and only shark I have landed was a 6' shark, not sure what specie, a pretty skinny guy though. And unfortunately broke a few more off, assuming they were sharks by the way they ran.
I currently use a large Diawa Emcast spinning reel on a 11' surf rod. That is loaded with 65lb power pro. In the near future I will be upgrading to a larger setup, just can't make up my mind what I want. Penn senator 12, 14, or 16/0, or a lever drag reel. While trying to do some research yesterday on the the lever drag vs star drag, is how I found this site. I found a good write up and was hooked. But still not sure which reel to go with.
A little about myself:
I am 25 years old originally from Ohio, but the Army likes to take me all over the country. I've been married for nearly four years with no kids. My wife like to fish, but gets a little burnt out if nothing is bitting. Which is pretty common with me, lol. I am a pretty laid back guy and just want to have a good time. So if anybody in the area wants to make a trip to the beach just shoot me an email (wcmoore05@gmail.com) and we can hook up from there. Really need somebody to go with.
Thanks to everybody on this site for all the awesome shark fishing info and a special thanks to william. I can tell you pour lots of your time and knowledge into this site and it is greatly appreciated!!
Great to have you with us and hope this site will help you become a better fisherman.I don't know how the north Carolina coast and it's piers held up to hurricane Irene but we're hoping the piers did not sustain any significant damage. The piers are a very good place to meet other local shark fisherman in your area. There you can learn where the shark fishing is allowed and most productive ,where to get your bait and all the information to get you started.Good luck.
