Hello All , What a Awesome site this is ! My Name is Pete Quartuccio ,"knock down" Found this site surfin the other day . A little bit about me , I Grew up in PT.Charlotte Fla . At age 11( I'm 46 now ) I along with my Father joined the Venice Sharks club, This is what got me hooked for Life !!! I remember those Evenings on the Beach at Boca Grande Pass! 16/0's , 14/0's 12/0's Stacked side by side on the Beach!!!! We did not own a boat back then ) I will never forget those days !!!!! Saw a few 16/0's stripped clean back then ! At age 15 ,I fished with Frank Mundus & learned a great deal from Frank(He was one of a kind !!!!) To date my Largest shark is estimated at 900 plus lb's ( Tiger Shark ) She came to the boat quick after the hook up ! Once she realized what was going on she left for Cuba That fast! 3hr's later she is beside the boat still strong and very fat ( Pregnant) We were able to pop the hook out and she swam off strong. Caught here on a penn International 50 with 50lb Ande Mono. Bait was Tarpon.Alot has changed since then. I know live in VA & am addicted to fishin Big !!!!! Giant Bluefin tuna has been my main focal point up untill a couple of years ago when , I found a friend in SC. Capt Chip (OutCast Charters). Well lets just say I'm Back!!! Can't say enough about Chip he is the Man ! Great person & Dear friend !!! I have recently put together a outfit just for sharks while we hunt the Large Bluefin ! We are catching Threshers right now of the wrecks here in VA , Large Dusky at OI on live Blackfin tuna. When the Spring run of Bluefin show up so will the Migration of Hammerheads. Last year we caught & released a few up to 400lb's, This year I Hit the baech (Hatteras ) I hear the Shark population is strong? I have a 16/0 & will buy a 12/0 & 9/0 to cover my bases. Look forward to talkin with alot of you & hopefully meeting alot of you. Take care to all & Tight Lines!!!!

Welcome
Do you have any pictures of those threshers?
They are one of the coolest looking sharks swimming!

Bullshark , I have not got any photo's of the last Catch of Thresher's . Next time out if they are still on the wrecks & we catch one I'll get some shots to post. We catch them on the troll.(Man's strech 30's & 50's). The Threshers are not large maybe up to 175lb's? but fun on the 30's.
BigReels , Thanks for the welcome ! Look forward to getting back to the land based sharkin in a very big way ! Not many around here that still do it, so I'm hopeing that the sharkin has gotten better off the Hatteras Point. The Area has a history filled with Large Tigers & fair sized Hammers. After Bluefin season is over I will hit the beach running! Something about fighting a Large Shark from the beach that a boat just can't touch at times ! :D

Welcome Aboard Pete ,great to have you here with us.We look forward to hearing about your Virginia fishing.Wow!! Another angler in our ranks that has some incredible shark fishing background .Venice shark club man I've heard about them from a few people throughout the years and read about them in Captain Bill Goldschmidt's book "Sharkman of Cortez". Lot's of land-based shark fishing history on Florida's west coast and we're always looking for new people on the site that can recount some of the incredible big shark stories from past years. The part where you mention the 14/0s and 16/0s lined up down the beach reminds me of the way it was on the south beach pier (Miami Beach) during the 70's and 80's.Sounds like you're catching some nice offshore fish up around Virginia with the thresher and bluefin. We sure are glad that we are making solid connections with out of state shark fisherman because those contacts with other like minded people expands the possibilities for those interested in fishing beyond state lines.New fish to catch (thresher),new state ,new way of targetting big fish and meeting other hard core shark hunters with history helps this site grow into one of the best shark fishing sites anywhere.Florida fisherman can benefit as we reach out to fisherman from all the other Eastern seaboard states .Again thanks for your participation and we look forward to hearing from you

Fishergirl & William , Thank you both for the welcome ! The Venice Sharks club will always remain so very special to me ! Learned so much not only on the fishing side but also the team work that it took & being just as happy for others as you are for yours ) !Back in the day land based sharkin was known as "Fixed Object". Short story from one of the nights out on Boca Grande , Time frame I believe was June. A friends 16/0 goes off , the hook is set , the reel is dumpin out at a real fast rate ! Reel is down to a 1/4 spool ( 200lb mono ). The decision is made to follow the fish in the 12 foot skiff we used to row the baits out with (complete with holes in the bottom ) My farther allowed me to go against his better judgement. The angler was Dick Packman (one of the very best as far as the West coast goes. ) My job was simple keep the water bailed out , make sure the Lantern stays lit & keep the tail Rope , Flyin Gaff & Bang Stick at the ready when the time came. Back to the fight ,The water was Flat calm , that night was Clear of stars with no moon , pitch black & silent. After the 4th hour she showed , She was a truly Giant HammerHead that easily dwarfed our skiff . Hour number 6 , the line goes limp and all Dick said is " She chewed through the leader " when the leader came back along with the hook that was Straightend out(14/0 Mustad )It was early am when we made it back to the beach , we estimate that she dragged us 3-5 miles that night. I won't even guess her wieght , but I would say she was a easy 15 foot , Tarpon was used for bait . PS. Thank god for Memories !!!

Pete,
I did the same thing, ran across this site a couple of weeks ago and was blown away by the pictures and knowledge this site puts out. I think I spent over an hour the first night just reading old reports and looking at pictures. Thanks for the kind words my friend. Tell the bride I said hello.

Chip , when I found this site , I thought about how cool it would be if we could find a little stretch of beach close to a good hole? Then I realized with some of the Tigers around going well over the Grander mark  we would have to be ready to chase the fish??? Either way when they put this site together I can tell ya it was done from the Heart along with alot of passion ! Would love to get intouch with alot of folks and get them out with us so they could see it for thier selves ! Hey Brother a Fla. road trip would always be fun too somewhere down the road !! PS Quit Harrassing all the fish !!! Give them a break !
