John Lock here, i live in lakeland but visit melbourne and AMI and sometimes indian shores/ clearwater area. Im both fresh and salt angler. I have 15' alum boat 20 hp that i flats fish with (usually The Kitchen) but i really enjoy beach surf fishin. Jettys and piers not my fav but i used to fish skyway alot when u could actually drive all over it. I havnt really shark fished yet. I got into this when surf fishin and seen some tarpon nearby.i was staying in a condo on longboat key fishin at first light. Netted some 8"-14" mullet and chunked it out live on med hvy spinnin with 80lb braid but only 300 yds. Got my butt handed to me. Several times too. Lost all braid twice but was able to see that i had hooked tarpon and to my surprise, sharks!(they jumped and thought, man that aint a tarpon!) after realizing i was much under equipped i vowed to return another day when i had emptied my wallet and filled my tacklebox with big gear. I currently have penn senator 6/0 and 9/0 on heavy diawa beefsticks 7' but dont have line yet. Savin for 100lb braid bullbuster 2000yd spool gonna split it between two reels and then fill remainder with 100 bb mono. I should be ready to yak some baits come May or so in indian shires area. I got friends with condo on beach there. Forgot to mention im 31, dad of 3 and happily married. Kids make it hard to spend much on fishin but slowly im collecting it all up. I would like to either join a team of casual sharkers or have some other rookies create one with me. I also would like to tag along someone experienced to get more do and donts advice. Been fishing since i could walk and research everything i do to the max but im not well versed in heavy tackle. Anyone who wants to join or take me under their wing just msg or call me 863 899 5656.
