I'm Charles & am new to this site.I have to say that it's nice to see that there are people still pursuing & enjoying this awesome sport. I was beginning to wonder what happened to all the die hard shark fisherman & then came across you guy's. I started sharking back in the late 70's & had spent alot of time fishing "Indian Rock's fishing pier" with the "west coast angler's" until the pier went down in 85.I've then moved on to shark beaches, bridges, pier's here on the west coast & have had pretty good luck.I also have a 15 yr old son that love's to shark fish as well.I started him on a 9/0 & built him a rod to go with it last Christmas & had just gave him my 10/0 & am just finishing up that rod as well. I myself prefer & fish a 12/0 with a Harrington 550 with aftco big foots.I haven't been out to drown any bait lately due to an accident that broke my neck in august, but hope to be back up & going in next few month's. Also,my other half & I are expecting twin's next month(boy's) & I'm hoping in time they will also pursue this awesome sport as well! Look forward to talking to you all & hope one day to shark with all as well

Welcome aboard Charles. You have found a website that will not disappoint if shark fishing is what you like this site is for you .Back in the 1980's i use to correspond with the shark clubs on the west coast,,,the Tampa Bay Sharkers ,the Sarasota Sharkers, the East Coast Sharkers up in Jacksonville,,,it was a different era and shark fisherman were more active then today but here we are keeping the tradition alive .I have an article from the 80's about an 800 lb tiger shark caught from the Indian Rocks pier and i will put a copy of it up shortly.Again thanks for your participation and welcome aboard. We look forward to seeing some pics and stories from your times on the Indian Rocks pier.Has the pier ever been rebuilt?Do you ever fish the skyway pier? How did you hear about us?

Thank's for the big welcome guy's! I'm very impressed with this site & even more with the sportsmanship & nice catches you all post on here as well. I wish that somebody would have rebuilt Indian Rock's Pier year's back, but that never happened.Alot of good memories of back then & I agree, time's have changed.I remember watching & sharking with these guy's of the West Coast Angler's & remember some pretty big bull's pulled in weighing 700+ lbs, some pretty big Jew fish & the list goes on..amazing!! A few of these guy's from the old club are still around Rick Skrovanek,Paul Herrington & shark Redington long pier on Saturday nights.I've sat in with these guy's & the club is still strong & very family oriented as it used to be. I've been sharking all over & the last time I sharked a beach over here I almost went to jail..lol,but the time before that I had just re spooled my 12/0 with 80lb dracron & a few of us set up on Indian Rock's beach/Belair Beach & I ran baits out for 3 rod's roughly 250-300 yard's out & about an hour & half later I hooked up with something that dragged me close to 1/4 mile down the beach & broke me off with about a 1/4 spool left on my reel..that sucked! Honeymoon Island is another hot spot around here with lot's of hook up's. The skyway on the south side is another hot spot & found sharking the beginning of the pier in shallow water has worked best for me.After I'm able to get back on my feet again,I've been itching to get over to Venice & see how the sharking is over there.Any of you guy's make it over this way?

Jimbo and his apprentice (Aaron)who lives in Bradenton fish the skyway and Venice pier at least once a month as well as Anna Maria Island and the pier.I am glad to hear the guys still get together on Reddington pier to shark fish,,,i think the names sound familiar from my old newsletters i use to get from the west coast anglers .I want to set up a saturday night to go to Reddington pier and get to know the old timers and introduce them to the website and to let them know they are not alone in this great sport and offer all our support and commaraderie. Can't wait.Thanks.

Thank you for the congrats on the boys,I think she is about ready to go any day now but hope she can go her full term. I got the release I've been waiting for to get this brace off & go back to work...& that means back to fishing!! The member's of the west coast angler's are also good people as well & encourage the younger generation to get involved & participate, but have an age limit of 18 for the shark fishing part cause of liability reason's for the pier which stinks but is understandable. These guys get together every Saturday night & have cook outs on the end of the pier with fresh fish, crab, shrimp or what ever they catch that day & sometimes a few of the guys play live music while waiting for that screamer. I know of a few guys that fish the skyway, one of them is a veteran sharker & goes by the nick name "Jitterbug" or "Jim" & fishes with his son on the south side as well, but he lives in st.pete. The last few times I was out there, there was a big group sharking that were from Texas & fish all over the east & west coast & were tearing it up. A wild but good bunch of guys. I need to stop talking so much & get to finishing up these last 2 rods so I can get back out there & drown some baits with you guys..lol
