Hello! just found this site!
I just found this site and I have to say I have a problem with it, IT'S TOO GOOD! THIS IS THE BEST SITE AROUND with more info available than the rest!!!! I found it by accident! And I have been reading all daylong!
I am an oldie compared to most 67 here, divorced with 1 son. I have been shark fishing over 20 yrs on the Texas coast with several trips to Alabama and Florida yearly (panhandle). I have only been to south Florida 1 time and due to the weather did not fish due to the wind being over 30knots and rain to boot. If there was a way I would love to meet and join any of you any time and join your club but living in Texas it would be hard to do so. I try to go monthly to the Gulf due to not having any sharking friends and a bad knee I have been limited on fishing piers and going offshore, I have a hard time getting baits out due to my knee. Its a long trip always alone but well worth it to me. I fish here 2-3 times a week taking others for stripers and hybrids. I have many sharks under my belt but never any over 7'1". My last trip was last weekend with nice black tips. I am old school with my father's Senators, all but the 14/0 which was pawned for $20 when dad remarried after mom passed and the other family got to them, I got the rest of them and they look new as they were in 59 when he bought them due to the care they got. I will never get over losing the 14/0 to those idiots. It was almost new unfished. I wish to learn anything I can from this site and those on it. I got a Avet Trx50w for Christmas from a Florida friend and I am wanting to wear it out and got a start last weekend. If I could be of any help from Texas to anyone just say so and I am not bashful to ask for it either!
Thanks to all for the messages, glad I found you.

Welcome to the site. One of the best Fisherman on this site is JD Hammer and he is in his early 60's. He Kayaks baits out, battles Sharks from the bridges and makes some of the more impressive catches every year. So what I am saying is you can still do it old timer. Lol. Looking forward to your reports. And like Ray Clack Clack Clack says we enjoy old school stories and pics. Catch em up!!!

Welcome aboard Larry i'm happy that you enjoy our site. I don't want to sound like i'm bragging but we've put a lot of our history in the pages of this website and have been passionate about our sport for a very long time, so thanks for the compliment about this being the best shark fishing site. We like to think we are fortunate to have the history that we have, and to be able to share it with the world through the internet has been a blessing, and I feel more blessed to be doing what I truly enjoy, which is creating an exemplary shark fishing and LBSF history site that 'those that know' can HONESTLY appreciate. Like Luis said up above James Fuqua(aka Hammer) is in his 60's and still going strong but he lives for the fishing and we are fortunate to have him teaching us from the very early days of this club. Not everyone can dedicate so much time to fishing but it's never to late to pursue your passion. There are many land-based shark fishermen in Texas and many that fish Padre Island National Seashore (PINS)as well as Galveston and many other points along the coast so finding buddies to shark fish may not be that difficult after all. Good luck and thanks for joining us.

Thank everyone for the kind welcome messages, I am grateful to be here. I am still looking and reading today. Due to the weather here I was making leaders until I ran out of crimp sleeves but more shall arrive any day.

Welcome aboard; this site contains a plethora of useful information when it comes to every aspect of shark fishing and it's nice to have another out-of-state fisherman reaching out to form a new branch in the shark fishing tree (community).
Just an average fisherman.
Next time you take a trip to Id recommend headed to South Florida. Let me know if you decide you want to, Ill get a trip together with some of the best in the sport. We'll get you hooked up to the Shark of your dreams. Who knows you could hook a 15 foot hammer. But nonetheless even if we dont catch a monster Im sure you would love the learning experience as well as us. We'd love to learn about your techniques. But in the mean time why dont you give John Hebisen a call. Hes baseed out of Texas as well and loves shark fishing(he owns sharkoutlet.com) He's a great guy and knows what hes doing.

John is very close to me here, I used to live just minutes from him and have spoke with him several times, I would love to come your way this year and honestly could make that happen, where exactly are you located? How far from Pensacola? I have friends there with a garage full of tackle for me, all I have to do is go get it. They keep using it for 'bait' to get me to come visit, they did send me an Avet Trx50 for Christmas from their stuff.
Thank you very much!
Larry
