Greetings From Singapore
Hello everyone,
I am Steven from Singapore. There are no land based sharking of any kind in the entire south east Asia that i known of. In fact, it will be quite amazing if one can catch any fish on the shore. Our south east Asia shores are way too commercialized for any shark or fish to come near shores. So i am so envious that for most of you out there, you can get a big shark on the beach.
Well, having said that, most of the fishing in asia is done via on a boat, unlike the fiberglass or metal hull game boat the West are using, most of the LOB boat fishing in the south east asia are on clumsy wooden boat, anything in the range from 60ft long to 80ft long, so when we are fishing, we are always anchored and almost never get to chase a fish, so i guess the fishing will be almost similar to land based shark fishing.
Well, biggest shark til date was a combine effort Six-Gill (very common in Asia), taken in Indonesia Sulawesi Islands, Taka Bakang Atoll.
Huge bugger more than 500lbs easily but it lack of fighting power, just a lot of resistances no long runs, a lot of head shaking, taken in 300m of water while deep dropping on a accurate 12, fight took about 4 hours for 5 person.
So far, i have caught Hammerhead, Thresher, Sand Tiger, Six gills, Blacktip, Whitetip, Tigers, Nurse in the 100lbs-450lbs range. No monster yet.
I do occasionally land injured sharks, or as food for the remote Island people, but i do released just as many sharks. Hopefully in the near future i can land the elusive 1000lbs Tiger or Hammerhead.
Hope to learn from all the experienced guys here!!
Tight lines,
Steven
