Hi everybody!
I just signed up today and thought I would introduce myself. My name is Kyle and I am from North Western Ontario, Canada. I live with my grandparents and go to the keys every winter for a couple of months. And i go fishing, a lot, and for sharks. I just turned fifteen today and I have been fishing for sharks since I was ten. I started off the Ohio-Missouri bridge for bonnetheads. I moved up to Bull sharks when I had one swallow one of my bonnethead and he proceeded to burn me, badly. Since then I have been trying to get a 10 foot Bull shark. And in just the one day of being part of this club I already feel confident about this winter. I went out and ordered a new 9/0 reel so that I will be ready come December.
I will let you all know how I do this winter.
Thanks,
Kyle

P.S. I am stationed at Big Pine Key, in the fishing lodge.

welcome abord kyle big bulls love bonnet heads. i am in the keys right now and it is kind of dead :( but this winter it should pick up. you cant go wrong with a 9/0 not sure about the brand new ones with the black spool. i got a 7ft tiger on a black spool 9/0 and all my other sharks were on my chrome spool 9/0. i just like the old school ones just personal prefferance. but a 9/0 is a good all around reel not to heavy not to light with a longer rod you can cast them. and you can take some monsters on it if you play them right and have the right line. if you can afford it go with 100lb power pro you can get roughly 900 yards of 100lb power pro then a 80 yard top shot of like 80 or 100lb mono. either way i hope to fish with you next time you come to the keys.

Welcome to the club, we just keep on expanding, and your all the way from Canada! Sadly, Ohio-Missouri is temporarily closed from as far as i know, fortunately there are endless spots in the keys to fish.
Good luck

There isn't a difference in performance between the chrome spool and the plastic ones is there? My 114H is a new one and it seems to be perfect. I am sure though that the plastic will not last as long :( .

Black spools are aluminum, chrome spools are brass, I don't think the senators had plastic spools, but some of the smaller reels did like the jigmaster

some of the old timers like to say the black spools are plastic, but they are both made from metals, the biggest advantage of the old school is the line capacity, the way there is a ridge in the new spool gives it less area to put line in, so a packed 9/0 old school might give u those few extra yards to catch that big 1, 9/0's in general have small drag washers, so you might wanna put sum better ones in, that's just my opinion.

I don't need to order anything special to do that right :?: . All I need is a bigger washer.
