How to make a Trolley Anchor

these are very popular at the pier i fish at for catching king fish, Spanish mackerel, tarpon and even small sharks. these are casted out on a surf rod or any rod that you can get some distance with and then stuck in to the ground. and then the rod is inserted in to a PVC pipe to keep it up right. then you have another rod that you have your king fish rig on and you attach a clip to the eye of the swivel then to the "trolley" line and then sent down the line. this will get your bait out father then you can cast with no weight and keep your bait on top of the water. now lets get on to assembling this "trolley anchor."

Materials needed:
1: roll of tape (i used masking tape because that's all i had i do not recommend that.)
2: metal cloths hanger
3: at least 3oz lead weight
4: wire cutters
5: swivel (optional)

now on to the assembly.

1: get all your materials ready.

2: cut the hook off the cloths hanger

3: cut the rest of the hanger in half at the bottom. you should have some thing like this now.

4: tape the weight in to one of the hangers so it stays in place.

5: take the other half of the hanger and put it on top of the other one so it forms a box around the weight. and tape that up.

6: tape the bottom of the box up so the weight cant fall out if you did a bad tape job on the weight it self.

7: bend each wire at the tape so it lays flat or close to it.

8: now at the end of each wire bend like a inch or so of the wire up so it can stick.

9: now tie it on to your trolley line cast it out and stick it and catch some nice fish.

ill get more pics of the set up later if i go out in the morning. sorry for the bad pics but my cam died on me.

we would use that same rig for kings at sunglo pier in daytona, but we would twist the coat hangers and tie a 4 to 7 oz pyramid sinker to the bottom.its a very good and effective set up.

Another way you can this is to drill out the middle of your weight, push your coat hanger through to your liking & then compress the sides of weight with a hammer until your legs/spikes dont move. These are easy to make & loosing them is not a big issue due to what you have into them.Just a suggestion & hope it helps in the future

That might work I have seen 2 bricks not hold bottom in the pass also depends on the bait you are using

Thats the nice thing about spider weights, they are constantly digging into the bottom regardless of the type of current. I was introduced to the brick/rock method the first time I fished with the club, but have found that alot of the different areas I shark doesn't hold big enough rocks to keep a bait stationary with tide or current movement....from now on I always kept 3-4 of these little guys packed with my gear just in case they are needed & I rig them as break aways because there's really not a whole lot involved in making them. Weights range between 5-20 ounces.

I always use spider weights they have only failed me in the pass but that is because I only had 16oz ones at the time goin to try the brick method next time I am out

So it's nice to have these innovative ways of making an anchor that may work better than a spider weight, BUT, what are your designs for the actual trolly? I've seen a couple of ways, but I would very much like to see how you guys do it.

do u mean the leaders?? i make my spider weights by drilling out a 8 or 10 ounce like he was saying earlier but i always like to use some jb weld to make sure its stays still seeing as its water resistant. i used this method for years fishing kings tarpon shark jacks really anything out there you put a balloon on the snap swivel and it will allow a live bait to swim right under the surface or with the right wind make it like your kite fishing which is perfect for a big ladyfish or bluefish lol they always get blasted and you get to see the hit which is badass

I mean the sliding mechanism. How do you attatch your fishing line to the anchor line and slide it out there? I've heard of many methods, including clothes pins, snap swivels, wire, with and without weights, etc, but can't really find a good diagram.
