Topshot Suggestions
I am looking to put a topshot on my 12/0. I got 1200 yds of 100lb pp on there with 275 yds backing and still have 1/3 the spool to put line on. I was thinking of going with Momoi 130lb mono and tying a uni-uni with the main line doubled up. I have never had experience with a topshot or how to do them so if you have any suggestions as to what lb mono to use on the topshot or if I shouldn't do a uni-uni would be much appreciated.
Sounds like ya got plenty of line with that PP. I would figure out how much line ya out out on a normal run and put about that much of the heaviest mono as would fit through my guides. What is momoi any way. does it stretch? How do ya tie a splice from small PP to big mono? Seems like the PP would cut the mono in a knot. The bigger the mono the less stretch.

Momoi is just another brand of monofilament. I use a uni to uni to tie Power Pro to big mono. I have heard some instances of Power Pro cutting through mono when tied this way, but it is simple to tie and I haven't mastered any of the other knots, so that is what I currently use.

I know a lot of captains all around florida that use the uni-uni for anything from trout to swordfish and have never had any trouble with it. I ended up getting around 200 yds of 130lb mono on the reel. I think I got somewhere around 1 mile of line on the reel now between the topshot, pp, and backing. I ended up goin with some off-brand cheap mono that don't stretch as much as other mono's I have used but is still strong.
stay away from the moi moi its way to soft of a line

moi moi is prob one of the strongest out there they tested the line strength with 30 mono from about 20 manf. and moi moi was num one breaking at 56 lbs almost double its rated strength
Yes its strong on the first stretch break but thats it. Pull that 30lb up to 50 lbs without breaking it then do it again you will never make it even close to 50. do it a third time and you be lucky to get it past 30lbs before it breaks. Momoi diamond is good stuff for about 1 fish after that its junk. It does not handle stretch well at all. if you dont mind changing your top shot after every fish then go with Diamond.
I was a huge fan of momois until I tested it dozens of times. I have broken the 100lb diamond with less then 60lbs after stretching it a few times. The true breaking strength is suppose to be 150lbs... what a joke.
I love Izorline first string in 130lb I can not believe how much abuse it takes. Fill her up with Izor.
As far as the connection to braid. I use a piece of 200lb hollow core about 12 feet long. Double the braid up on it self then insert about 7 feet of it up it the hollow braid. Insert the 130lb mono up in the hollow about 5 feet and serve the ends.
Here is the doubled up solid braid into the 200 lb hollow
130 mono in the 200lb hollow
this is served with 10lb braid. connection end of the doubled 130lb solid braid to 200lb hollow braid.
This connection is the smallest and strongest there is.
