Been using short stand up rods. Got a 10 foot Unlimited gator and wanted experienced opinions on where to keep it 10 foot or do most of everybody cut them down to 8 or 9 feet? And if so why? This is for sitting down with on the beach.
Many thanks,
Sarge

If you wanna make it lighter cut it from the butt, but I wouldn't cut it, if you don't like it trade it for another sized rod, no use in ruining a rod that will become hard to find. A lot of people don't like long rods, it takes some getting used to, but if the butt is long enough it will bury in the sand and you wont even need to hold the rod anymore... Usually this occurs on a 2ft rod butt or longer. Post up when your finished with the build.

Just an average fisherman.

I would leave it at 10' if possible. If it were me I may have to cut a tiny bit off the butt (to be able to fit it in my Jeep Cherokee) but If I could avoid it I would. When I finally build another rod that is likely the blank I'll be using unless I come across a 555 which would not be cut.

Thanks guys, 10 ft. it is. I didn't want to get it built at 10 ft. and find out from you guys, with experience, that I should of cut it down a little to make it shorter for whatever reason.

Ya 10ft is great i used to use long.rods only everything from gators to fenwick 1206 and 1208 to lamiglass great for casting and smaller reels lile a squidder or any equivalent will fly on those lol used to throw 100yds consistent and king fish with a modified trolly rig only 1 rod but even from beach they good less chance of weight pulling from seaweed or heavy waves

It is a meatstick already, so good choice. I haven't fished one but seen a few and WOW they are huge rods. What reel are you putting on it?

Have not decided yet, probably a 80w but maybe a 14/0.

To me those reels won't do it justice. I seen an Avet 80w on one and it looked tiny......130 or 16/0 is the only size that looks remotely normal on that beast of a rod.
