What's around in January

Basically I am bored and looking for some chat. I will be down in January. What luck has anyone had in January in the Ft. Myers area? Wanna get ready for the Hammer challenge. New year hammer would be awesome, or is that unrealistic? Shark Knights getting tuned up.

i hooked a big dawg that pulled drag for two straight minutes on a locked 80w in the dead of winter, that sliced the heavy mono on something, but im guessing your on the west coast, so its mostly sandbar sharks in large numbers.

Figured as much. Havn't caught a sandbar yet. Will do some surf fishin and throw out what ever presents itself. There have been huge amounts of Lady fish around this year. Probably don't have to get too deep that time of year.

I have thrown them out. No luck, but will continue to try. Hard part is getting one big enough. I have tied two together. Small ones get crabbed real quick. Has anyone had luck with trout?

Well... Maybe In A Bay.... Though Why Would You Use One For Bait :? Ladyfish Are Really Oily So On A Beach That Would Make A Great Scent For Something Hungry. Folks Pay Big Bucks To Go For Salt Water Trout, So Its Kinda A Prized Fish. Ladyfish Are Everywhere ;)

I,m Not Saying It Wouldn't Make A Good Bait, I Just Wouldn't Use It For Bait. I Give It To Someone To Eat. (I'm Allergic To Sea Food) :( We Have Quite A Lot Of Sea Trout Here In Biscayne Bay In Miami And I Seen Rays Chase Them Through the Grass

Agreed, but I catch them by the dozen as well. (when they are passing by) Will use ladyfish. I have seen schools of blacktips, or at least a few of them, chasing trout. A couple of weeks ago it was crazy, the sea was boiling and these trout are jumping for their lives. I dragged a ladyfish from further out right into the middle of it and not one hit, right at dusk. Skipjack was fresh as well. Crabs finally got it.

Not disagreeing. My father in law gets mad if I use them as bait. I prefer to use jacks or ray. Don't know why, just had better success with them. I usually throw out a few different baits. Mullet a lot as well.
