I Have A Question For Our Miami Shark Club Members, Has Any One Shark Fished Our Causways? Rickenbacker, Macauther, Venetian, Julia Tuttle? I Caught A Lepord Ray On The South Beach Pier In Goverment Cut Once. I Believe The Only 2 Club Members To Have Caught Sharks On Causways Were J.D. & Rene.

The Reason Why I Ask Is I Saw A Epidsode Of Florida Sports Man And The Host Hooked A Beautiful Tarpon Right In Front Of The Miami Herald. It Was At Night And In The Winter And When They Went To Release It, A Easy 6+ Hammer Went After It. Even At Boatside The Hammer Wanted That Tarpon The Crew Had To Tow The Tarpon Away From The Causway So The Shark Didnt Attack It. We All Know Sharks Tend To Give Birth In Bays & Waterways Thats Why I Ask.

Just saw this post and to answer your question Jonathan all those bridges hold sharks including the Bear Cut bridge very near where Mark Resto caught his 14 ft 2 inch Hammer Super Bowl Sunday 2012 .That bridge has a catwalk that has closed off to fishing for several years now because of structural damage and lack of interest on behalf of the local goverment officials who rather not have landbased fishermen scaring the local multi millionaire home owners of Key Biscayne .Most of the bridges in Miami that go over the bay towards Miami Beach are "No Fishing by order of FDOT" but the few that are open to fishermen defenitly attract sharks mostly in spring and summer months when the tarpon are there. If you put your time in, fish with fresh bait, and have the right gear you will catch sharks on the Miami bridges. Most of the fishermen in the club like to travel to the keys with better chances of hooking the Big Hammers in spring(a tradition Jimbo and Rene started) and others prefer the beaches of Palm beach away from the rift raff(young and old drunks and trouble makers) that frequent the Miami bridges on weekends. It's always better to avoid run ins, fish where you have a better chance of catching some eating fish from bridges with less fishing pressure and a more relaxed atmosphere is what keeps most away from the local bridges and going South or way North. There are spots in the bay that even hold Scalloped Hammerheads in the late spring/early summer if you know where to fish.Biscayne Bay traditionally holds some massive bull sharks and really big hammerheads so hooking them from a bridge is just a matter of putting in the TIME but catching one is a whole different story,Good luck.

The Biggist Shark I Caught From Julia Causway Was A 4 Foot Nurse One Summer Night Last Year. I Caught It With A Cuda As Bait. But I Suspect Their Must Be Bigger Sharks There. It Was Inbetween Miami & Miami Beach 41st Street Area. Their Are Also Some Nice Size Trout There If You Have The Patience. Caught 7 In One Night. Biggest Was 4 1/2lbs. Using Live Shrimp. But I Fished On The Turtle Grass So Maybe Thats Why I Got That Nurse. Chunky Size.

Excellent post Will.

I have a question about bridges. My fishing partner, also a member of this site and I fished heavily during the last week. We fished Big Marco Pass on the outgoing tide one nite with no success. I know that you mentioned to me that there was only one pass to fish over here - Boca Grand, but it is not always a possible choice.

Is it too late to fish in late October for big fish?

Do you always float your baits?

Does it matter if it is day or nite. I always fish the beaches in the evening and later, but I have seen some great catches in the day.

Danger with street people. We met up with a bunch on the bridge the other night. Some were on top of the bridge. Kinda spooked me what might be underneith.

When I Fished Julia Causway I Caught The Trout In The Day And It Was Late In The Season, I Was Lucky Enought To Know A Guy Who Went Shrimping The Night Before, I Was Surprised To Have Caught That 2 1/2lb Cuda I Used For Bait, (Kinda A Mistake Catch Thinking It Was A Snapper) Even Though I Wasn't Snapper Fishing. Anyway I Put It Out During The Night And Caught That Nurse. I Imange Their Are Almost Always Sharks Crusing The Intercostal (Looking For A Easy Meal), So I Can Imange Its A Matter Of Where And When. Like Will Says.

No doubt the Bay can hold Monster Sharks. I think the closer you fish to an inlet the better shot you have. JP you can try the Rickenbacker. It's very hit or miss. You are going to miss a lot, but at times there are Big Sharks there. Timing is everything. Bear Cut is better but you have to get creative to fish there as it"s not allowed. It has become very hard to fish Miami. We are surrounded by Water but we can't fish it. It's pretty ridiculous. Like Willy said your best shot is to go North to the beaches or Go South to the Keys. Of course you can fish locally but like I said you have to be willing to take some risks. Like we say you have to be a NINJA!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!
