Hey grimm:

I don't have a photo that I know how to post but, William has a photo of my big Tiger. You'll have to scroll down some to find it. My Tiger was 13' 1" and it fought for 2 hrs. and 30 min. It was a good fight and really hard. When the fight was over I really felt it and my knees were bloody from the rod bolts cutting into my knees.

2 hours on a tarpon from the pier with 40lb mono on a penn 200 surfmaster... one bloodknot in the line. Dumped the reel twice, took me around the pier twice, including over the weather station a few times. My biggest one yet... no camera; about 2 weeks later some guy brought in some pics to the bait house.

Just an average fisherman.

Sence most of my shark incounters have been 10ft or less i havent really got my but kicked. The monsters that would easly beat me up like to eat my smallest bait on the smallest rod and blow them up (last time it was the 12/0 took 1000yrds of 80lb in less than a minute. NOT COOL) :? :? :? But i did do battle once with a permit that beat me up. this monster ran me back and forth on the peir. Oh and of course it was on a buddys POS cheap okuma conventional with 20lb old milky line    This fish Kicked my but from the begining of the peir 800ft to the T than back down the other side to the beach. While i was desperatly trying not to lose this fish it spooled the reel 2 times charged the peir and by the graces i stoped him. When the fish was finally done i looked around and there was no gaff or hopenet to be found and of course i didnt bring one  . So i asked a friend to rig uo my 4/0 wide with a shatch rig handed the rod off then stuck it with the 4/0w. finally we draged the fish to the beach. The fish was only 40lb but i faught it using about 5lbs of drag due to the crappy line and reel. That was the first and last fish ever caught on that reel. It hadnt caught any fish before that night and seased after the fight. :D :D :D

Either a 45 minute battle with a 30 LB salmon on 12lb line after catching 7 in the 1 1/2 hours before
Or
Catching a 50lb Mekong Giant Catfish on 10LB that was snagged in the tail, took about a half hour.

No monsters on heavy tackle yet

My biggest fight was 2 hours 45 minutes on long key
Bridge during the ripping out going tide.
A 12 ft 2 inch hammerhead . Caught in between the telephone polls
And fought till its death!!

I copied the post from 2010 - 3HRS

9 foot 4 inch Hammer

I met C Money 7 at the beach around 2. I was happy to skip out of work since the weather was warm and the sea was perfect for kayaking. Baits were deployed - Bonita, ray, King fish and bluefish. We sat watching the water with no shark action. Then I turn and looked at Carl and realized he has a bathing suite on and he is baking in the sun and I have a hat, pull over sweatshirt, beach towel wrapped around me and I have chills with the onset of perfuse body pain. I had an upset stomach all morning but nothing was going to keep me from the beach.

I decide I will stay to at least 6pm. I was disappointed that I was not going to make sunset; I was just to achy through out my body.

Carl landed a blacktip that was 59 inches. We did not bother with photos since it was not going to qualify. I started packing up at 5pm just after Carl landed his blacktip. We heard my 9/0 go off so we ran down the beach and get ready. Just to find out that we lost the fish and my 12/0 starts screaming. I have never seen line come off a reel this quick - unbelievable!!!!

I give the fish time to eat the Bonita head with a single hook, then I set the hook with the running man and the fight was on. I have a 12/0 with 500 yards of 100 braid as backing and then filled to the rim with 100lb mono. The drag was locked down and the fish would not stop. It felt like 15 min. of line going out. I burnt my forearm and inner leg on the very hot reel. We ran out of water so we started to pour soda on the reel. The fish would not stop and I had about 200 yards of backing left. We got the other pole ready so we can join the lines; luckily he stopped when I had about 100 yards of line left.

Everyone was screaming and we think we have a 12 to 15 footer on and was going to win the tournament. Carl cleared all the other poles from the beach and I went to work on the fish. Actually, the fish went to work on me. To make long story short. I had the chills, sweats, queasiness and aches. I wanted to cut the line about an hour to an hour and half into it. I even develop a huge blister from reeling on my right thumb.

Just a few minutes later coach Howard Schnellenberger comes over to see what is going on. He spouted off a couple of positive remarks that keep me going for another hour and a half. Team Shark Fever landed a foul hooked 9 foot 4 inch hammer. I fell to the floor in the fetal position for about 20 min. with chills, sweats and achiness. I left the rest of the work to the crew. I took very few photos and went home. I spent the last 36 hours in bed and just came back from the doctors. Diagnosis - Strep throat

Look at the photo above and you can see where the hook was set in the gut.

No pics as it is a sad story. I should have taken a picture of my buddies after we lost the fish as no words would have been needed.

I have since beached dozens of sharks, but this one still haunts me, but at the same time, it is the reason I still beat myself up on the beach.

3 years ago, we had some friends visiting. They have never shark fished before so I was taking things asy. Small baits, short drops. The wives went up at about 9:30 as we had been shut out thus far. Just my buddy Perry and our two daughters. We settle down into our chairs for a bit, coupe of beers etc. My 9/0 goes off real hard. I run for the rod, flip doing a summersault, and expell some flatulence. Our kids thought that was hilarious and still talk about it. The fish is screaming off the line. I would have been dumped for sure as the 9/0 didn't have the horses for this fish. Bang, fish is off. whatever it was bit though 400lb wire leeder.

Before I have a chance to be upset, the 12/0 is flying toward the water. Somehow the freebail musn't have been set. Perry dives for the rod in the nick of time. He picks it up - fish on. I keep tightening the drag, but it is not going to stop. It wasn't super fast, just a steady dumping of the reel. I pour fresh water on the Penn. After 2/3rds of the reel is gone. 500 yds braid with the rest spooled with 125 bullbuster. Anyway, she finally stopped.

An hour goes by and we are not making any headway. Perry gets in maybe a few hundred yards and we start to get dumped. As always happens, there are now 10-15 people hanging about. Some big dude wants to have a go so we let him. He plants his but down into the sand and plays tug of war for roughly an hour. he is done.

My older friend Graham shows up and has a go. I was coaching. I am the only one who knows how to handle a shark so I felt that I needed to be ready. We finally get the beast close to the shore. However, the tide has gone way out and there is not much water. We are fighting the fish rought out to the mud. If I was to guess, It was probably 2 1/2 to 3 hours at this point. I see some splashing a hundred yards out. I grabbed the line very lightly not wanting to pull the hook. I walk out with my gear. I planned on just cutting the leeder as I did not want to drag the fish up and have whatever was die. My best guess is that I am 30 yards from the fish and then TWANG.

I could hear the very loud awww! from the beach behind me. That sound and the limp line in my hand still hauts me. I say cudo's for the fish though. She won, beating up four grown men as well as my ego. I think with the low tide, she got cut off on a shell or rock, maybe a crab trap. Maybe we had her up on her belly and were applying too much pressure.

Anyway, I now use 600 to 1000 lb leader wire and make sure that my line is in good shape. Happy ending for the fish, men were made into boys.
