Question On Star Rod I Bought
Hi all, I went to my local store and bought a Star Aerial rod. Its 5ft 6inch and it a jigging rod. Its like the shimano Trevala that's also a jigging rod but my new star is rated extra heavy with huge Fuji guides and its a 50-200lb class.
I put a penn battle 8000 with 600 yards of 40lb power pro. Whatcha yall think. This rod was "high sticked" at the shop and it bent very, very, well and its extremely impressive. So I called Star rods themselves and talked to a designer, rod expert and he said from the shore it will pull in the sharks and big boys with ease. He said its very very strong.
has anyone had experience with this rod. It also is fighting belt ready for the gimbale
Just in case anyone wants to look it up heres the model number and specs: star aerial jigging exjs56xh 5'6"
braided line line weight 50-200lb
jig weight 160-325g
mono weight 40-100
lure weight 5-12oz
Like I said, this rod is a beast!!
Thank you batrayz for the reply. I might step up the line but figured if I played the drag good 40lb would be good. On my 9/0 on a star rod I use 50lb mono aand I hear the 40lb braid is stronger
You and batrayz are talking about two different things. 40lb may take more pounds of pressure to break compared to 50lb mono, but it's brittle and the abrasion of getting dragged along the sandy bottom can cause it to fail. This is one of the major reasons guys do a mono top on their line.
That seems like a funny combination to me. Especially for a battle. I use my battle more for surf fishing. I would never set it up for a shark. I have a 7 foot star rod 30 lbs. I use with a 6500 spinfisher. 30 lb braid. I use it for small blacktips or when the big jacks ar hitting. Your rod seems pretty short for leverage in casting. Might be good off bridge for grouper etc.
