Absolutely especially since I'm sure you'll be fishing with buddy's: if each one of ya brings a rod you'll have plenty

"Doing what I can, with what I got."

If you can only afford one then start there, your collection will undoubtedly grow as time goes on

It only takes one....I feel having other rods on the beach improves the odds of a hook up and helps pass the time but you only need 1.

Start with one, use it for the baits you'll yak out. Then grab a big spinning rig ya can cast out. Cover the short distance and the long distance.

Later one, you may want a set up for a monster shark, or a set up for smaller sharks.

I started with a 14/0, then I got some smaller stuff when I realized what the sharks were like at my local spot.

If you are on your own. Yes, one rod. That's what I do as well. Put out a shark rod and do some surf fishing up close.

I have had a double hook up while my son went back up to the condo before. Can be a bit crazy.

We ussually fish three rods if there are two of us. four if there are three of us. I don't hear all that well and if we do more than that, I don't have a hope of hearing one way down the beach. More than four gets a bit crazy trying to keep the bait fresh. If you have a crazy hookup, you can run your lines into each other. It's nearly impossible if there is a decent current pulling one direction.
